What's your IQ?

I have a master degre in psychology from Holland and was trained during my studies to give several of the most populair intelligence mesures that used today. The biggest of these and most used usually is the WAIS, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale.

These tests ATTEMPT to mesure something that is basically not able to be mesured. Intelligence is specific to certain areas of function and abilities.

Nearly all intelligence tests have racial and social biases in them and also may be partly just knowledge tests. If i learn more am i smarter? No, but the WAIS will say i am!

I tell anyone i talk to not to put any value at all in these scores. They are really rather meaningless for most uses.

To be honest, I don't let these tests determine the true level of my intelligence. If I did, then I would have flunked out of college a long time ago and ended up a drunk. I'm referring to my low, low, LOW S.A.T. score.

Think about it. Tests are created by human beings like you and me. Here's a famous quote that sums all of it up. "To err is human".

An IQ of 36 is very high. But in any case these tests measure a very specific type of intelligence.

The tests themselves are loaded with assumptions and value judgements which act as filters favouring/discriminating against different people. The best comparison I can offer are high school grades. These are supposed to measure who the best/smartest/most able/most motivated students are. But in fact there are many other factors operating. Examples of such factors would be:

(1) The type of learner someone is and the way they process information.
(2) How well a child is adjusted to the social environment of school - whether he/she get bullied for instance.
(3) The stablity of their home life.

The list goes on...

Anytime you try to measure something you inevitably also get caught up in making value judgments about what constitutes intelligence.

Just consider these tests a bit of entertainment and don't tie your self-worth or sense of intelligence to them.

It's interesting what magdelena said about culture effecting scores. I took a British IQ test once (I am a New Zealander). My score came back as only 102! God only knows how I got into my Ph.D program, LOL!

I took an online test and mine came up 136. I guess that puts me above average but not a genius. Oh well. Are these things even accurate?

I did a mensa test when i was a kid. The test put me up at 165 which just goes to show how inaccurate they can be!!

As the others have been saying, don't read too much into the score.

I took a test in the 5th grade and it was 136. However, I've taken several online tests and scores have ranged from 110 to 160. I assume the test I took in the 5th grade was the most accurate.

i had mine done at 132 once... got me to skip a year in primary school but chose not to.

i dont think they mean crap honestly.

some savants can hit 200-300+ on such tests and they are retarded.
