Whats with high rep squats and deads?

I usually do most of my workouts between 1 and 8 reps, sometimes I do sets of 10 to 12 though. Currently 10 is the most.

Recently I've been reading threads with some ppl doing 20 rep sets of squats and deads, what is the point of this? Just a way to switch up your training or what? Are you doing these on a regular basis? Seems like it would be as much for muscular endurance as it would be for muscular strength.
 
usually with 20 reps squats, you pause between each rep and take a few breaths. Helps recruit the higehr threshold fibers.

If you did them continously yes it would be all endurance.
 
Usually when I see this rep scheme being implemented I have observed that the 1st thing that is sacrificed is form therefore increasing injury.......the same thing goes for powercleans....just my $ .02

add a couple dollars to your 2 cents and then ad a couple of dollars for me.
 
Also may depend on what your training for. I do strongman comps with b fold, our next comp has an event called the powerstairs where we have to carry 4 implements weighing about 400 lbs each up 4 flights of 5 steps each 16" high. So...I've been doing deads with 405 for sets of 20 to get ready for this event. I might add that it sucks too!!!
