What's the minimum protein intake?

What would be the minimum protein intake necessary to stimulate muscle growth after newbie gains have been made? I'm guessing at least 1gP/lb? I was just curious, because even though DC recommended 2gP/lb, some days I may not hit that mark (though I plan to try) and want to make sure I'll still be making gains with a number underneath that, and not just wasting my time.

lol, try telling that to my nutrition professor... he's been arguing with me all quarter about necessary protein intake even for bb'ers being way lower than people think.

1 gram per pound of bodyweight ia absolutely necessary if you want any growth to occur. I usually make sure i take in 1.25 grams per pound just to make sure!

30g of protein per meal so if you have 4 meals thats 120 grams a day. that would be my minimum... but really you should eat 6x a day so 180g is what i normally go for. anything more than 30 g at a meal is overkill

The average person can maintain muscle mass with protein intake at 15% of total daily calories (or thereabouts). Try it and see...

kz - what kind of shape is your nutrtion professor in????

it's funny, but any performance nutriotion related courses have been taught be skinny or fat fux. This class, which is little more than a GE and has a very broad spectrum, is taught by a pretty ripped teacher. He's about 6'3 over 200 with <10% bf... It's tough not to take someone with the knowledge and the physical evidence seriously.
