What's the best tradeoff between biggest/best TV I can get for $2,000 and will they be cheaper by Xmas?

october is the slowest retail month

if you can find a model you like that is being replaced at around that time, swoop on it and hammer the salesperson, they often dont care

id do my homework and find out who made the screen/tube/whatever because theres a lot of rebranded stuff out there that is very good - there are usually a few rebranded samsungs etc out there that sell for very little because the plastic shell they come in says "soniq" or something like that. so long as you buy the $40 5 year warranty, its an excellent tradeoff (save 600 on the screen, cover your ass with a $40 warranty)

i bought my father a 53 inch dlp a few months back that was originally selling for 4000 or somethign ridiculous...i got it for 1800. a new model had come in to replace it with a few model letters changed or whatever, there was little pressure to make money on it on the salespersons behalf, and they encountered Scrooge McDelicious that day lol

either way though, i dont think prices are dropping at a rate where youd delay your purchase too long - its not like it was 2 years ago where the price was coming down 200 a month and the quality rising crazily - its plateued a bit. buy your tv, thrash the shit out of it, love it, then in 5 years put it in the spare bedroom. putting off 5 months of viewing pleasure to save $400 is a bit dumb imo

October is definately not the slowest month for retail electronics the slowest months are in the summer, but thanks for coming out GD.

October is actually the month when things start to pick up again.

Read this, This will give you great info about tv resolution!!! http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5137915-1.html

How important is resolution?

Not as important as you might think. According to the Imaging Science Foundation, a group that consults for home-theater maufacturers and trains professional video calibrators, the most important aspect of picture quality is contrast ratio, the second most important is color saturation, and the third is color accuracy. Resolution comes in a distant fourth, despite being easily the most-talked-about HDTV spec today.

Panasonic plasmas have great contrast ratio, color saturation and color accuracy. Plasma tv's run on alot of eletricity and will cause your electric bill to go up if you watch alot of tv.

good advice. i used to think the opposite for awhile too, until i realized "i'm gonna put off fun for months just to save a couple measly bucks per month??"

spend ur time finding something good quality. then find the right price. i bet it won't drop that much in price by xmas. and tv qualities are eays to compare. go to a shop and look at them. the brightest and sharpest for my eyes were clearly toshiba and lg. they were gorgeous. 1080p and hdmi/hddvd and ur golden.

i read this online in a review of my hdtv:

"I also got this answer from Toshiba itself right after one day I ask them about the 1080 p. Answer that explains what its already in other web sites:
Thank you for your interest in Toshiba.
Dear Edward:
Your unit is a 1080p TV, in that it displays a 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) all the time. While the television will not accept a 1080p signal from a source device, it will accept a 1080i signal (as well as 480i, 480p and 720p) and deinterlace the signal for display as 1080p.
Deinterlacing is the process of converting an interlaced picture (e.g. 1080i) to a progressive-scan picture (e.g., 1080p). This process is performed internally in your TV. It is unlikely that you would notice any difference between an image from a native-encoded 1080p signal and a deinterlaced source 1080i signal.
The Blue-Ray, when set to output 1080p, is doing the same thing as the TV is. It is taking a 1080i signal from the disc and de-interlacing that to output it at 1080p.

good explanation.

my apologies for not realizing that, because summer when the weather is lovely is exactly when electronic sales tank.

When does the school year start down in the antepodes? Does Christmas come near the beginning of the kids' summer vacation?
