What's the best tradeoff between biggest/best TV I can get for $2,000 and will they be cheaper by Xmas?

It's simple.

I worked on the electronics retail floor for a couple of years.

#1 don't buy sony.. you're paying for four shitty letters..

#2 see #1

#3 Toshiba and LG probably make some of the highest quality televisions, Toshiba has been sporting quality and been in the TV industry for a long while.

#4 wait until mofugging boxing day if you can handle the madness, but you're guaranteed to get the best prices on this day.

#5 try to find a reputable store that has comission sales people it's much easier to grind them on a price and get a better deal.

#6 JVC is crap too, probably worse then Sony.

#7 your 2000 will go alot farther to something bigger and better if you wait until boxing day, I guarantee it.

checked out the vizio sight they look decent, they don't seem to have been around for that long so I don't know if I would feel comfortable with their product, I'd definately go with one of the bigger names like toshiba or LG, even samsung or panasonic.

like I said wait until boxing day, or else you'll probably want to kick yourself in 7 months. =)

Edit: forgot to mention Pioneer, Pioneer elite is probably some of the best eletronics out there a little pricey though. =)

sound and vision mag's opinion on the vizio (december 2006);

"BOTTOM LINE It wasn't all that long ago that I found myself amazed at the prospect of 42-inch plasma TVs dipping below $2,000. But now that the Vizio P50HDTV 50-inch plasma HDTV has hit the streets, I'm going to have to adjust to the idea of 50-inch models selling for that! The Vizio definitely lacks the visual wow-factor of the 50-inch 1080p-rez Pioneer plasma I recently reviewed (which is priced at $8,000), but I have to say I'm impressed at what the company can deliver picture quality-wise in a set this inexpensive. It may not be the last word in plasma TV performance, but the P50HDTV is one heck of a deal."

sony is shit for sure
I will never ever buy another sony product
I've had multiple failures from their equipment
my home theater is based around a sony elite reciever I paid about 1200 for in 1998 and I wanted some cross over usefulness out of all the remoted so I added sony CD players and DVD player(3 total)
have had problems with just about every piece

I agree, depends on what you need it for and where you'll put it with room lighting viewing light etc...

If you can get a deep TV and have the room for it, I'd go with a DLP. The Samsung DLP HDTVs are the best out there now. Especially the new one that came out with an LED design with no changing of buulbs required. The old model hovered around $2000 for a 61 inch screen. A superb 1080 'P' picture. My brother was picking one up, but now will get the new led one for the same price(roughly $2000) He got a good deal.

I would check Amazxon, as they have good deals with free delivery once in a while.

Find the one you want and wait until you need it, you'll get a good price as they do come down every few months. I think the spring time comes out with new sets, so the older ones may be going down or went down now.

and Get a HIGH DEF DVD player when you buy the TV. Especially if you get the 1080 P set. It will take full advantage of the technology. Awesome.

Every single Sony product I've owned has been superb.

I wasn't aware people had problems out of them.

probably about 7/10 they aren't selling quality they are selling an over marketed four letter word.

if people came in and really wanted sony, I'd sell them sony, other then that I wouldn't sell it to hardly anyone, they had good digital camera's that was about it.

toshiba was definately the best, for picture quality AND longevity.

the toshiba projection produced a better picture then sony's LCD projection because the LCD couldn't do blacks and whites very well at all.

october is the slowest retail month

if you can find a model you like that is being replaced at around that time, swoop on it and hammer the salesperson, they often dont care

id do my homework and find out who made the screen/tube/whatever because theres a lot of rebranded stuff out there that is very good - there are usually a few rebranded samsungs etc out there that sell for very little because the plastic shell they come in says "soniq" or something like that. so long as you buy the $40 5 year warranty, its an excellent tradeoff (save 600 on the screen, cover your ass with a $40 warranty)

i bought my father a 53 inch dlp a few months back that was originally selling for 4000 or somethign ridiculous...i got it for 1800. a new model had come in to replace it with a few model letters changed or whatever, there was little pressure to make money on it on the salespersons behalf, and they encountered Scrooge McDelicious that day lol

either way though, i dont think prices are dropping at a rate where youd delay your purchase too long - its not like it was 2 years ago where the price was coming down 200 a month and the quality rising crazily - its plateued a bit. buy your tv, thrash the shit out of it, love it, then in 5 years put it in the spare bedroom. putting off 5 months of viewing pleasure to save $400 is a bit dumb imo
