What's the best tradeoff between biggest/best TV I can get for $2,000 and will they be cheaper by Xmas?

If you are going to look at price falling you have to understand it a technology based industry, therefore; no matter what you buy it will be out of date and the price slashed within 3 months of your purchase. If you want a bigger bang for your buck do what I did. I bought a 1080p 46" plasma on clearance awhile ago. Got it for 2 grand and i love it. It's a samsung and it retailed for 3200. I think I got a hell of a deal on it but I'm sure prices will drop within a month or so on that particular model

What is going to be the main use for the tv? Games, movies, basic cable? Believe it or not, a tube TV will give you the best picture without the hassles of glare or ghosting. And will also save you the most $. The largest top of the line HD tube will run somewhere around $1300-$1500 on the high side. Only downside is size and weight, should be around 240lbs. Flat panel saves you space, but has its faults depending on DLP, Plasma, or LCD.

Depends on WHAT kind of tv you want and how important HD is.

You can buy 1080i/720p tv's for cheap now because 1080p (full HD) is the "in" thing.

That is what I did and there is not a noticeable difference between the two.

List what tv you want (LCD, Plasma, Rear Projection DLP, Rear Proj LCD, your viewing space, type of lighting, etc. and we will tell you a good brand and size to get.

tubes look great but I think you want size? My advice is to wait as long as possible becuase the prices will always be coming down. You could save 200 - 400 bucks if you wait till dec. Shoot I just paid $400 for a 26" lcd and would have paid $200 more if I bought 2 months ago.

Puddlemonkey shut up, you have enough karma already.

lol, I'm greedy :rolly:

I've read in a couple of periodicals(the wall street journal) that plasma demands are falling versus LCD
so if you want a plasma as I do I'd consider waiting ~3 months for their prices to fall
