What's my MAX Bench Press

I am not a fan of Max lifts but as we all know it's a commonly asked question, "what's your max" to which I usually answer, "I don't know and I don't care". I usually monitor my progress by how much I work out with and track my progress when I add more weight to my exercises. I work out alone most of the time and don't really want to bother someone to spot me so I can establish my ego numbers....

That having been said, the other night I hit a high of pressing 315lbs for 6 reps on my last set of bench. What would a good estimated 1 rep max be based on this? I have thought about throwing up another 45lb's on each side and going for 405 lbs which would be encouraging? What percentage would be reasonable?

405 would probably be quite a jump, especially since you aren't used to using max or near max weights. it will probably increase potential for injuring ligaments which aren't used to that amount of stress.

Good point. That is probably why I have avoided the "max" altogeter. I am more concerned with refinning my body symetry then being a "strong guy". There are a few guys that can throw around alot of weight but have a big gut to go with it.

I can hit about 350 for 6, but I havent tried 405 yet. I think I am at about 390-395 or so. I should probably try soon. 90 pounds is a big jump, but you never know. If you try it, let us know how it goes.

Exactly. Why choose between strength and size when one lends the other?

They have guts because of their diets, and because they use their diets to give them a false sense of leverage. Their training has little to do with it.
