What your ideal measurements should be

Haz

New member
OK, I found this whacky calculator that determines your ideal measurements from your wrist size.

http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/MaleGirthCalculator.html

My wrist is almost 7 inches. The numbers I got for my ideal measurements were pretty close to my actual numbers. However, it looks like I need to work on my neck. It says it should be almost 17 inches, but mine is only 16 inches. Looks like I need to buy myself one of those head harness things.

Everything else was almost spot on. My waist is slighty smaller though.

So how do you measure up?

No need for a neck harness, just lie on a bench, hang your head over one end and work your neck

do it face down, face up and each side.
Then put a towel on your head and stick a plate for extra resistance.

I was a lot closer to ideal than I would have suspected. My arms are a tiny bit bigger than ideal, chest is a tiny bit too big, as is waist, thighs, not sure never measured, and calves are right there.

Damn, I am closer to perfect than I even realized.

Ha.

yeah uhhh im far from perfect... very far... my waist is too small to be perfect.. i am one of the few people on the board that can fit into a size small lifting belt... i only have a 26 inch waist.

im like 4 inches off on chest
3 1/2 on waist
6 on hips
2 on biceps
1.25 on forearm
3/4 on legs
.5 on calf
and 1.5 on neck.

8.25" wrist
Chest Size: 53.625
Waist Size:37.537499999999994
Hip Size: 45.58125
Biceps Size: 19.305
Forearm Size: 15.55125
Thigh Size: 28.42125
Calf Size: 18.2325
Neck Size: 19.84125

Strike what I said earlier. My wrist is only 7 inches. (not that there is any shame in seven inches)

Therefore, I am not quite so close to perfect as I had been led to believe. I am way to pudgy. I prefer the term thick, but pudgy is probably more accurate. I am almost 2 inches over on arms, way way over on waist, 3 inches over on thighs, and 3 or 4 inches over on chest.

At least I am not over on waist and under on everything else. That would suck.

And Deceiver, this calculator was not meant for people your age. Your wrist size will not grow much if any over your lifetime, while your muscles may and should increase in size dramatically. And that includes the ol' table muscle as well. I have you by a good 10 inches in the old gut.

But then again, I am about 10,000 cheeseburgers ahead of you too. Better get to work.

B-fold, you have massive wrists, by the way. That is about the biggest wrists I can remember being measured. Can they even fit handcuffs on you? You may not want to answer that last one.

bfold: good GOD. wtf kind of wrist size is that? you must have HUGE hands.

i only have a 7 inch wrist as well. benchmonster u definately have me beat on the arm and chest size.

My wrist size and long hands allow me to have a good grip too...

What is amazing is that when I shook hands with Phil Phister...his hands SWALLOWED mine!!!!

Wrist size 7"

Ideal - Actual
Chest 45.5 - 45
Forearm 13.2 - 14.5
Waist 31.8 - 32
Thigh 24.1 - ?
Bicep 16.3 - 18.5
Neck 16.8 - 18.5
Calf 15.47 - 16
Hip 38.6 - ?

I was actually pretty close on most of them. I have big arms and neck, but I wouldn't be surprised if my thighs were lacking a little.

Doesn't Phister always get ranked as having one of the strongest grips in the world? Size matters.

I would love to be bigger boned and have big strong joints, and especially big hands.

Big hands along with foot speed are IMHO, the top physical attributes a person can possess for excellence in physical endeavors.

Sadly it is one of those things you are born with, and cannot be improved upon.

And OKIE, you sir, have one Hell of a physique. You should be proud.

Yes, Phister's hands are huge and he has a great grip. When I shook his hand, my fingers barely met the outside of his palm.. Tony Scrivens has HUGE hands too...but he isn't the quickest guy in the world.

I love my big hands but my HUGE feet get in my way a lot...lol.

I wish I had bigger hands as well...it would really help while doing a lot of lifts. Versa Grips are a life saver when I go heavy. I appreciate the compliment benchmonster. My bodyframe is not that big, but I have worked hard to surpass my natural size. I really need to work on my legs. I am only 5'9" and weigh about 200lbs.

Well, Okie,

You have me by a couple inches in height, but I have you by about 25 to 30 lbs in weight. Big hands would be nice, but can't do much about it.

There is a sure cure for the leg situation. Squats, squats and more squats.

The squatting will tend to give you a bigger waist, though. I owe at least a few inches of my enormous gut to squatting, the rest I owe to cheeseburgers and pop tarts.

I hear what you're saying. I am unable to do regular squat because I have had reconstructive shoulder surgery on each shoulder, and my range of motion is so limited that I cannot reach back far enough to hold the bar. I usually do either safety squats, leg press, or front squats instead. I don't have chicken sticks, but they are not proportionate to my upper body. Although I am only 5'9" I wear 34" length in my jeans, so my legs are pretty long. I really just need to be more disciplined when it comes to working legs. No excuses, RIGHT?

Can you use a manta ray? I have a hard time grabbing the bar for squats too. Safety squat bar or manta ray may help.

B.

There is no Manta ray at my gym, but I use the safety squat bar. It works fairly well. Would power cleans or deadlifts help a lot?

Benchmonster, do you really think exercises like squats will thicken the waist? I ask, cause I'm trying to get a superslim midsection, but even though my bodyfat is relatively low, my waist is still kinda chunky. I just thought it was the way my gut was.
