best cardio is the one you'll do and do consistently..........they are ALL realitvely the same.........find one you can mustar through daily, and you're set.

I definetly agree here as well. Cardio doesn't do much of anything, if you get fed up with it, and quit after a few weeks.

For me...HIIT cardio on an elliptical is the way to go.

disagree all you want man.........calories expended are calories expended.......some might work in less time, different regions of the body, more efficiently....but they ALL BURN CALS>................

By that rationale, weightlifting and cardio are basically the same thing, since they both burn cals. ;)

If some work in less time and more efficiently, aren't those the things you would want to do? I think that's what the original post was looking for...

There are major differences between intense interval training (less catabolic) and long, slow cardio (more catabolic). If all you want to do is lose WEIGHT, they're both fine. If you want to lose FAT, you should stick to HIIT, IMO.

cardio sucks..I hate hearing guys like dave palumbo say my metabolism is so fast i dont need to do cardio..b.s..guess im just jealous lol been doing moderate on some days and high intensity other days..seems to be working

You guys ever consider cardio for it's own sake? There are many benefits too it just like with lifting, but I think it deserves more PR dedication.

IE - I can bench 2x my weight AND I can run a mile in under 6 minutes and a marathon in under 3 hours.

Honestly, I'm more impressed by running PRs because running really comes down to 'how much pain can I subject myself to', whereas lifting - either you can lift the weight or you can't, and it's all over in seconds anyway.

Training to race is much harder than training to lift for the same reason. It is frickin PAINFUL to run at your maxiumum. To lift at your maximum is sort of fun and doesn't induce the same level of exertion (as defined by how much oxygen you are using and how fast your heart is beating and how much pain you feel).

Did I start a flame war or what?

Nah, I kind of agree Synpax. I ran cross country throughout high school, and I always thought it was the purest "you against yourself how much can you push yourself" sport. Weightlifting is almost even more challenging for me though, just cause I've always been a skinny bastard and running came much more naturally to me. I mostly did 5ks though, never tried a marathon - that's super-tough.

LEt me put it this way even - I love going to the gym. I have very mixed feelings about running.

The hardest part for me in lifting is eating enough to make the lifting worthwhile.

That's probably true for 90% of everyone. Lifting = fun. Eating well = pain in the ass.

??? thought you were a marathon runner?

I've found sprints to be very effective. I've been run/walk cardio this last week, and dropped about 1% bodyfat -- and thats without cutting calories, or even dieting (i had a big mac for supper yesterday).

low-medium intensity has always been what i prefer.
either on an empty stomach in the morning, or after weight training session.

How many times a week should I be doin hiit If I still wan't to get slightly bigger? Also is it a balls out 30 seconds of sprint? Id think that would be fuckin hard. I'll try it though.

I usually go 5 times a week, maybe more if I cheat at all,and its low-med intensity for 25-35mins,depending on how I feel that day

I should have also stated on a 15 incline,and low intensity is about 3mph,med I step it up to 4 mph,In 25mins I burn 400cals

moderate at 30 min in the morning on an empty stomach keeping my hart rate at 135. For me personally if I do that I can drop about 1% bf every 10 days.

Studies prove (yes i have them) that HIIT causes the body to release HGH ...it has countless other benefits-such as raising metabolism far longer than go slow cardio.

So you see it has very little to do with calories in and calories out .They are not ALL the same at all. HIIT burns less cals and more fat.
