what to eat/drink after sports?

Should I treat this just like working out?

I play hockey once a week late at night (~11PM), so I don't want to go over-board, but I'm just wondering what, if anything, I should eat/drink afterwards.

Tonight I had some gatorade on the way home (probably ~30g carbs). When I got home (~1+ hour later) I had a whey shake with 2 tbsp flax oil (with a breakdown of ~44/3/28). (I didn't have any chicken cooked up, or else I would have had some of that instead.)

In the future, should I skip the protein/fat meal and just have some simple carbs to replenish glycogen stores since I'm going to sleep relatively soon after (within 1-2 hours after I'm done playing)?

Did any of this make sense?

just handle it like a postworkout meal, take some dextrose and whey, then eat some starchy carbs and low fat meat an hour later.

after muay thai and kickboxing training i hit a post workout shake. One thing i must say about the body building community is that they've got sports nutrition down to a tea, you just need to adapt it to your own needs :)

I also play hockey once a week late at night. I treat it pretty much like I would going to the gym. A little whey/carb drink 30 minutes before the game and I also bring a whey protein shake with me in my gear bag and drink it in the locker room as soon as get the equipment off. If I am not trying to drop weight I include carbs post-hockey also.

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured, but I'm kinda worried about the fact that it's so late... I don't really wanna over-do it on the carbs.

hehe someone told me this and it's stuck in my mind!

"Carbs post workout are not used for evil intent" hahaha

As long as you're getting enough carbs post workout and not more then you should be ok
