I like to have a turkey salad every day but i cant find any clean dressings. They're all either full of crap carbs or crap fat. I tried to eat the lettuce plain and that just isn't happening. What do you use?
I'm cheap, so I just use red wine vinegar, a touch of olive oil, dijon mustard, and spices. I don't keep a bunch on hand, but make up a little cup of it every time I sit down with a nice big salad. You can even add a bit of Splenda occasionally, if you have the appropriate spices to get the sweet + spicy or "mock honey dijon" thing going on.
But if you just want to buy a bottled dressing for convenience, Annie's Naturals makes some very good dressings and vinaigrettes without any high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils. You can find Annie's in most upscale grocers (some regular), Target Supercenter (but not WalMart, sigh!) and in all health food places. That link shows the flavors and ingredients, if you're interested. I've tried the low fat honey mustard, gingerly, and raspberry and liked them all very much. But alas, I'm cheap like I said so I usually stick with making my own.
you can also make your own vinaigrette:
1 part balsamic vinegar, 3 parts good olive oil, 1 tsp dijon mustard, couple cloves of garlic, couple sprigs of basil. (throw it into a bowl and stir it up until it all mixes -- don't use a blender because it will separate)
