I just took a few different I.Q. tests on the internet. I know they are probably all bullshit, but I am curious as to what the average is for an adult male. Does anyone know where I can get information on I.Q. and personality types??

The fact that your GF got a 140 probably means that she is fairly intelligent, but it does not mean that she actually has an IQ of 140, which would make her borderline genius. I got tested by an actual test that took about 3 hours to take and scored a 132, but I've taken tests on the Internet that say my score is anywhere from the upper 140s to the lower 150s. IQ is highly overrated anyway. My father is an Orthopedic Surgeon and scored a 115 on the same test I took. Hard work and determination are what's important.

i believe "real" IQ tests are centered at 100, with a standard deviation of 16. with a normal distribution, something like 68% of the population lies within +/- one standard deviation. about 95% lies w/in +/- 2 standard deviations (68-132). that leaves about 2.5% with IQ's over 132.

i would be highly doubtful of the accuracy of any internet IQ test...

Right. I think it just that they saw what larger opportunities lay ahead if you do not go the way of the herd. Make your own path and rely on you own wits for success.

The doctors and lawyers have different ambitions in life then the self made millionaire. IMO the millionaries are more intelligent in the game of life, but may not neccassarily be as "formally educated" as the lawyers and doctors.

Besides lerning to become a doctor or a lawyer takes more of a memory capacity type of learing as opposed to a problem solving ability type of intelligence required to become a mathematician, code writer or a physicist. Those are much more difficult and really do require a higher IQ.

It's all a matter of opinion, especially since there is no set universal standard for the test.

I could easily say your 3 hour test is not proper because at the end of the 3 hour period your brain is no longer performing at 100%. Or a you could take a speed IQ test to test your intelligence in how quickly you can come to different conclusions in problem solving, but then that too could be bullshit because you may think "slower" but more analytically and still come to the same conclusions.

Also a long test will not hold your concentration as well as a short test. So which gives the true score? You will never know. You say you took several internet tests. You lowest internet score was only 10 points higher then your "real" test. NOt much of a difference, and the spread could have been repeated if you took the "real" test as many times as you have taken the internet test.

A 3 hour IQ test is more of a endurance test than anything and will not show your optimal performance.

I took an IQ test when i was in highschool. They dont tell you the results because they think one of two scenarios...

A. Say you score a 150. Now you become conceited and refuse to do any homework or study because you believe you are above it all.
B. Say you score 50. Now you know your below average and everyone else is better than you, even Forrest Gump. You decide since your an idiot to drop out of school or give up because you think you are an idiot.

That was their reasoning for not telling us our scores unless we were 18 and asked for them. I think the tests are bullshit-mostly because they are tests. Some people I know are very intelligent but just cant take good tests. I know when i was in 10th grade and they gave this to us i couldnt sit still anylonger during the test and just started making up answers. Then i started to get frustrated thinking that they are going to throw me away and i just starting messing up on purpose even more so. I've since learned to control my anger and I refuse to accept a stupid test as a measure of intelligence.

Not really. 30 years ago when your father applied to med school, academic requirements for med school acceptance were much lower than they are today.

decreased college enrollment compared to present day = decreased competition for med school entrance = lower academic averages necessary for med school acceptance.


In addition, science has come along way in the past 30 years. I would wager that the majority of "pre med" or biological science students completeing their undergrad today are taught the majority of material that was included in 1st and 2nd year medical school curiculum.

Its true. Its not incrediably difficult to become a proficent doctor, its just that theres so much med school entrance competiton presently, med schools can afford to take the cream of the crop. Also, national MD associations regulate yearly medical school enrollment and the creation of accredited new medical colleges. Y? to keep current MD wages high. Supply and demand. Regulate the supply of doctors through medical school student enrollment limitations and regulate the creation of *accrediated* new medical schools, and u can regulate the supply of MD's....therefore, regulating wages commmanded by medical professionals.

So, in my opinion, hard work, presently, doesnt equate to success in the professional occupations, at least in the medical feild. Youve got to have an edge.

1 in 2,500,000

Assuming a random distribution IQ scores in the US, with 100 being average, and a 16 point standard deviation, you scored in the top 120 US citizens.

IQ is not bullshit. Average IQ is 100. University undergraduates/graduates rarely have IQ's less than 110. I remember reading some studies to this effect.

British Mensa uses two main tests to identify people's IQ scores, the Cattell B Test and the Culture Free Test.
A pass level which puts you in the top 2% will qualify you for membership of Mensa.
A middle aged adult can only get a maximum IQ of 161 on the Cattell "B" test.

Don't know about USA... but 179 sounds a bit high if you know what I mean...

True, there is very little difference between a 90 and 100 intelligence quotient. THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF DIFFERENCE between a 140 and 150 intelligence quotient. I never liked most people I was around in college (computer science nerds) and really never fit in that crowd.. Not sure why but I prefered to use my brain to get in and out of trouble! Yeah, you're right...that Internet test created by some computer dork that your GF took is much more accurate than one given by someone with a PhD! Any test, Internet or not, can measure intelligence to some extent, but you're in the sub-100 range if you think a 50 question Internet test can accurately measure someone's IQ consistantly. An IQ test is not to see how much you know...it is designed to evaluate how well you absorb and comprehend information.

I'd like to add that if you of an anxious disposition or have depression - you may score lower than your actual I.Q. Due to your mind being pre-occupied and tired with 'issues'.

This is why i havent taking an authentic IQ test. I have an anxiety disorder with moderate depression. Its funny, one of my negative beleifs is that Im stupid. When I take a timed test I get really nervous that Ill fail ect. So ive decieded to wait until i overcome my anxiety before I take an IQ test.

By the way, a 136 IQ sore qualifys you for American Mensa membership. A score of 132=> on the Standford Binet or Wesherler qualifys for American/Canadian Mensa membership

It's very hard to accurately measure very high IQ's. Mensa is NOT very high.

Scores in excess of 140 in a standard test often generate a difference of 5 points for a single answer.

If anyone does qualify for anything like the Triple-9 or (amazingly) the Mega/Ultra society, I'd love to hear about it. I would not be surprised to find an above average number of 150+ IQs here. Why not, the smartest man in the world is a body-builder. (And it's not Marilyn, Guiness be damned)

Most of these tests have no time limits and you take 'em until you feel you can go no farther - over a period of days or even months.

As for 179, pretty damn impressive.

What does IQ measure? how fast you learn, what you can learn, what? does an IQ test have any real life applications other than letting you say 'i did good on an IQ test'? people like Sidis & Langan are very creative thinkers (both did groundbreaking work in astronomy) but did they do it due to their high IQ or because they were socially pressured to 'do something smart'.

I've tested out at 149, 156, and 142 respectivly. I hate IQ tests. The real ones take hours to complete, and all you have to show for it is a 2 or 3 didgit number.

I read somewhere that someone with a 150 IQ can recall a 10 digit number, backwards and forwards, after seeing it once.
