What I believe about fighting

I believe that going forward there is no one master art, that it dosen't hurt to have a base in something, but you better be ready to continue learning. I believe that the guy who taught me my first bjj moves was one of the smartest mofo's I have ever met. Why? He took and taught wing chun kung fu for 25 years, having no other profession, until he saw the first ufc in 1993. After that he took no more lessons in kung fu and taught it only to support himself. He found the best bjj guy in the state and at the age of 52 became a blue belt and at 55 a purple. I believe that the further you go back in history for a style, the more dirt you will have to shake off to get to the gems. I believe after studying Rickson Gracie jiu-jitsu for almost 10 years that it too is an incomplete system. I believe that dim mak is a complete waste of time, I believe that I have laughed as I choke the conciousness out of someone as they try to pressure point me in an area that hurts, but will never make me let go of the choke, never. I have done this to dim mak, Japanese jiu-jitsu, small circle jiu-jitsu, and aikido students personally and watched the confidence drain from their faces after they request another try at sparring in disbelief that what they were taught does not work against a non complient opponent. I believe that we are in the dawn of a new age of combat and that ego, race, dedication to one style, and all the other stuff that we are capable of creating in our minds to hold on to a certain reality no longer apply. I believe this is an amazing time to be alive and interested in fighting. I also believe that these are my beliefs and you may think I am full of shit.

Your not full of shit but I BELIEVE this thread has NO meaning...and my opinion that the best time to be alive would be the Roman era where men or "Gladiators" were FORCED to fight other men or larger animals (bulls, lions, tigers etc) to the DEATH and just for others amusement. That would beat the shit out of a UFC or any Martial arts tournament ANYDAY !

I'd rather have the people fighting for my amuzement both alive at the end of the 'entertainment'
perhaps I am too sophisticated for the fighting arts..

But I really don't see someone from back then beating someone now. The advancments physically since then, the advancement in technique since then. I have trouble believing that a 5'2" Roman gladiator would stand much of a chance against a 6'3" 230 lb Minotauro Noguiera or a 6' 240 lb Cyborg like Darth Fedor. I am talking just hand to hand combat here. I have no knowledge of swords or weaponry.

True enough--if you want to compete. Some people are happy only training in one art. Competition demands a fighter to be multi-faceted.

Dim mak is a total joke, as I'm pretty sure everone here will agree. You might ruffle the feathers of some hard-core traditionalists, but that would just be pride and ignorance on their part.

I do like what you said about the disbelief and lack of confidence in traditional martial artists as they find out their art is not "complete". I think a martial artist would either have to be blind or completely stubborn to think that "their" art is the master art.

As a traditional practitioner myself, I can see and am drawn to the value to MMA; on the other hand, I continue to train where I do for personal reasons. But I sure as hell would never bring my art to the ring and think I'd get anywhere.

I think you're all full of shit..

You're entitled to that opinion, although it means pretty much sweet fuck all.

Tap out and pass out is for pussies..

Is that a fact? Well, some of us actually have careers and family outside the ring, asshat. Maybe if your lucky, you will too, one day.

Now I remember why I stay off this forum.

Good. Stay the hell off, and take your ignorant attitude with you.

Oh, and thanks for posting! ;)
