What do you think about Martial Arts?

I think martial helps us to fit our body and lose fat with practice it regularly. Martial arts practice keeps our mind fresh and care our heart and running it properly.

What do you think about martial arts?

Is this help our body to lose fat or fit our body?
 
I used to do bjj and muay thai for a little over a year. I gained confidence and strength. But I had to leave because my fitness goals were higher. My buddy who stayed, and practices very regularly has very low bf% but no traps or much of any discernable muscular definition. If I would advise an absolute beginner on what sport to start with, I'd say some martial arts.

But also one has to consider how martial is your "martial" art. Many sports have been effectively neutered and are a joke. Ehm karate, king fu, krav mega(never was), etc. Or things like cardio boxing where you're more dancing than anything else.

I loved jiu jitsu because I pushed myself to discomfort constantly and I rolled 100% most days, you can't do that with many martial arts because that would mean impact to the face and head, and that's not good on a regular basis. Muay thai was intense, sparring was tough, but I couldn't take the constant bashing of shins. It's a hell of a way to fight, very painful to the opponent and you(potentially).

In training in Muay Thai, you can avoid shin-on-shin damage since you're not banging them every day. Shins on pads/bags - you get use to that. And usually when sparing you use the shin guards.

When you get into the actual fight, your adrenaline covers up the pain.

However, I will admit I haven't felt pain so much in my life as after I blocked a full-on kick with my shin.
 
Having done Kenpo Karate, judo, and basic tae kwon do I find that the mindset of some practitioners of martial arts is to put themselves into bad situations just to justify their training and hence ego. Its ironic that they do that given that the true aim of martial arts is to eliminate the threat by not even being in the situation. So I really wonder what the point is of all this training. If you use it and authorities find you are skilled in it you better have a good lawyer even if you did kick some guys ass. Personally I wouldnt want to waste time and energy fighting someone I would rather get out of the situation. There are other ways to learn to fight mentally than this authoritative nonsense that define most martial arts schools. You can play chess. You can play Go(weichi). You can train in both wei chi and chess, which I do. And I can come to work not looking like I got into some bar fight.
 
Martial art is good for children and young adults to learn values and co ordination. After that it is gay unless you are a superhero or movie star. It is a useless skill, given that anyone with a sharp knife can cut u up with just 20 min knife training. And if you do use the skills and hurt someone you may end up in jail. The only effective fighting styles are the ones thst have a sport such as boxing, muay thai, wrestling, judo, bjj etc

MARTIAL ARTS VS STREET FIGHT!

I think Martial Arts are great,spiritual- body kind of balance ,but would they work in a real street fight ?
 
I have low self esteem and suffer from complex issues. boxing fills that void I have and gives me a nice shell to hide into. Within a week that I don't train or do any sort of exercise to improve my well being I die a little bit inside and feel naked to the big grand world. I'm such a mess. Does anyone else feel this way ?:verygood:
 
This all depends on where you train and how you train. Some train for fitness. Others train for sports like bjj, mma, muay thai. Other train for self defense/life protection. All schools are not the same and neither are all instructors. If you are training for competition you are training for sport. Sport all have rules to protect the athletes. Martial arts original creation was for life preservation. There were no tournaments(sporting events). The entire focus of the training was on surviving if attacked.. Today many people train in a sports version of a martial art and believe they are training in self defense. If you take an art like muay thai. It is pretty well known today. Most people don't realize it was created for entertaining(sports, competition). One of the original arts that it came from was muay boran. That was created for self defense/life preservation. Not many school teach real muay boran today.
 
When practiced with an expert in a legitimate art form, martial arts is an amazing way to enhance your life. The benefits of practicing a martial art are endless and I would encourage most everyone who is able to be involved in them. Just make sure to do a research on the master who you would be getting classes from and make sure they are legit. Finally, something I firmly believe, you shouldn't do martial arts to get in shape, you should get in shape to do martial arts.
 
I can say from first hand experience that martial arts can save lives, in many ways as a matter of fact. Not just looking at self defense reasons, which I also can say first hand it works. To just losing weight, being healthy, and even creating a mental release from the stressful world we live in 24/7
