What do you guys think of this sweetener?

Hey there

Over where I live, there´s no splenda... so I bought a liquid sweetener, and here are the nutritional facts and ingredients:

Water, cyclamate and sacharin, fructose, sorbic acid.

By 100 ml:

1 kcal
carbs 0.2g

What´s your take on this sweetener? It is sweet as hell, so I use very little, and I kinda like the taste! I´m worried about the "fructose" part though... but I´m no specialist when it comes to sweeteners....

thanx

Im no expert either but if ur doin keto the fructose might knock you out. Test it... but im sure it will knock u out

I´m not worried about ketosis... but just worried about getting fat for the sake of having fructose in there?

I guess that won´t happen, since it should be a very small amount... but that sweetener sure is sweet!

Well it's better than table sugar which is the most important part. Also I highly doubt that you use anywhere near 100ml at any one time and since it's less than 1g per 100ml I don't think the fructose is an issue. I doubt it'd impact insulin in any way shape or form.

nah eheh, the whole bottle is 200 ml and it has lasted me a long time :)

I might just stick to this sweetener instead of splenda or whatever...

It sucks that you don't have access to such simple things as splenda and fat free foods. I can imagine eating "healthy" in a place like Portugal that is known for it's good must look strange. I've done things like bring fat free sour cream and healthy butter into a restaurant to put on my potato. I can imagine the looks one would get attempting that where you live :)

BTW what is the average body type that you see in Portugal? Are people fat, thin, a bit of both or what? I know in America that obesity has reached plague like proportions I'm just wondering how some of the other countries are doing. I know England is no doubt catching up to us.

You are right, I´d have a lot more looks for doing that than in the USA. Believe me, I´d feel completely free to do so in the USA, but not in here though... there´s a big difference in culture, and over there it seems people are more open to different stuff. Here we are all, sadly, a little less encouraging to different people, which sucks.

We are indeed catching up in what comes to obesity, the fast food restaurants like Macdonalds are proliferating around here and especially young kids love going there, which I think is almost a crime. If I were a father, I think I wouldn´t permit my kid going there. At least not in a regular fashion... Also the always-getting-faster lifestyle takes a toll on everybody´s daily life and it starts showing in people´s quality of life and food choices. I really struggle sometimes. I have to try and not only cook for myself, but also go shopping for healthy stuff and try to keep it up.

One thing I hate here as well is not having much variety to choose from for example on take away foods... it´s basically mac, pizzas... and that´s it :\ I am considering emigrating to the US (j/k) lol

The average body you see in Portugal... well I can tell you in the Capital, Lisbon, you see a bit of everything. I think there are very few fitness enthusiasts though... over here most people start going to the gym in May or June in order to shape up to go to the beach and then convert into couch potatoes after Summer season is over. You get a bit of everything. The guys and gals who are into fitness look pretty good though... and we have some very nice girls here... :)

One difference I notice is that here people look more "natural", I can´t explain very well this concept... Anyway I´ve only been to new york and Chicago so I can´t tell very well.

My mom´s going to new york tomorrow and she will bring me some fat free fig newtons lol :p

Oh, let me add, I remember I saw a report on tv saying that more than half of portuguese are overweight (not obese), but that´s already alarming cause the numbers have been raising pretty high....

very bad news....

people simply don´t know what it means to eat healthy and have a healthy lifestyle at all (but truth be told, we don´t have a lot of opportunities - fat free stuff, and such)

I noticed that you are from California, Vageta

That´s a place I´d definitely like to visit sometime

How do you like people there? It´s known that there are a lot of fitness crazy people there! eheheh

Oh now I remembered, we also don´t have a lot of conditions for sports... for example I love in line skating instead of running sometimes, and if it weren´t for a recent bike road (I don´t know how you call this), it would be impossible for me to do in line for fitness. So all in all, I´m lucky cause I live nearby, lol.

I love California and can't think of any other place I'd rather live. It's expensive and there are a lot of activists that congregate here but overall it's great. We really have almost everything available to us in the state. Great beaches that run along the entire state. Mountain, lakes, rivers, deserts, forests, etc... I live in Sonoma County which is in northern California and I have access to all of those climates within just an hour or two. I also live near San Francisco which is a great city to visit though I don't think I could handle living there. I'm within 3-4 hours of Nevada if I wish to gamble, let alone the dozen or so Indian Casinos less than an hour from my city.

Yes it is definately a fitness orientated state for the most part probably because of all the beaches combined with the fact that Hollywood is here and it's always setting the new trend. The fitness craze is a bit absurd as you have these trendy gyms popping up that have juice and protein bars amongst other things. That doesn't include cardio equipment with TV and internet access. I don't mean TVs hanging on the wall, but LCD screens attatched to stair steppers and bikes.

As far as other forms of exercise, road and mountain biking is very popular here. We have lots of mountain bike trails in this state and lord knows there are thousands of cyclists on the road at any given day.

We do have our idiots though. There are always morons trying to make new laws about absurd things. This is my favorite one that just happened.... Someone is pushing to pass a law in the city of San Francisco to ban Oreo Cookies due to them being so unhealthy(trans-fats, sugar, etc..). If that's not already rediculous on it's own, what makes it funnier is that San Francisco is also trying to legalize marijuana. Talk about priorities.
