just look at their eyes and they'll believe you

People often have their own patterns but they are repetitive. I like the scene in just married where they are burying his new wifes dog, and she notices his nostrils flare and therefore knows he is lying about how the dog died.

So engage them in conversation on topics you know they are prone to lie about and watch for whatever their specific pattern (or "tell" as its called in poker) is.

For example ask a guy about the size of his dick, bank account or bench press. Ask your girlfriend if the kid is yours. Then watch for their mannerisms as they lie.

Nervousness, eyes moving around, quickness to answer, (or slowness). Denial is a good one. Like if you make an accusation, and they get angry and deny it, they're lying.

Pay attention to their voice patterns. See if they're trying to remember something they had rehearsed.

Very true.

I know my bosses so well I can always tell when they are lying or bleeding me for info.

It's actually funny at times.

When you accuse someone of something... such as:
"You're cheating on me, aren't you?"
And instead of the person simply saying NO... they will say
"What makes you think that... or why do you say that?"

They try to find out if they're caught by asking if you know something you shouldn't know instead of flat out denying the accusation.

True..People are so different and would be almost impossible to comeup with a common denomintor to outline typical signs of lying..

By studying the person for a while and analyze his/her answers/ gestures you may come up with a solid conclusion that could lead you to find out if the person lies or tell the truth.

To throw a blanket statment ,i.e., " looking down" or "hesitating" --as signs of lying--would be foolish as some people could just be shy or have different temperament.
