I would just like to take a poll on what you guys think. I know that denim shirts give you more of a bang at the bottom than polys do but at the same time I know that polys give you more assistance throughout the entire lift than denims do. Now this is what Im getting at. First off, I will be competing in organizations that allow only single ply polys, at least until I get strong enough and brave enough to compete with the big boys!!! Now I have just recently started westside training, this is week six for me. I have been hearing from a lot of guys saying that westside training will only work well for those guys who use double denims and such. Is there any truth in that? Do you guys really feel that the guys who use polys will not benifit from Westside training at all? Now dont get me wrong, I do realize that the denim shirts are better and all but Im just not ready for that yet. Anyway, what do you guys think?

try poly first..imo

You will be fine, don't sweat it. I lifted for years in single ply poly and had no problems. The basic premise is still the same, however, you are going to want to take abotu 1/3 of yoru speed sets with your comp grip -- this will take care ofthe poly problem. It's just a slight adjustment, but it will make a huge difference. Poeple forget that westside training was around long before denim and dbl denim bench shirts and they still produced awesome results -- KP benched somethng like 450 when he was 15'ish -- I'm not sure of the exact age but I am within a year on that.

total bullshit....i'm living proof.i hit pr's in three benh competitions in a row and the only thing i did differnt was change to westside.my lifts are on APA website as well.i'm no big powerhouse breaking world records, but i get results.i competed in poly all the years i have been competing .westside works for people that go raw...the only thing that i would do alittle different in you go poly is hit some illegal wides and some heavy d/b's to hit the chest a bit more, since alot of WS is closegrip focusing on tri's......

Im glad to hear that, thanks guys. I guess I will hit a couple weeks every now and then of illegal wides and I will definetly start doing 1/3 of my speed sets at comp grip.
