Well I did it...

I did deadlifts for the first time yesterday. It felt pretty good, but a little unnatural to me. Like my form was way off....I had my wife take a look (because I did them at home instead of possibly looking like a fool at the gym) to see if I was doing them right. I told her what to watch for and she said it all looked good. Maybe it just takes some time to get use to....? She wasn't too happy about my scraping the hell out of my shins, but I told her your not doing them right unless you are rubbing them. Even with a light weight I felt them burn.... A couple of quick questions now.....

Do strength increases and size come pretty quick with these or is it something that takes awhile....(either way I'm going to continue to do these).

Also, am I right by always leading with my ass on the way down...?

Thanks bros!

strength will come very quickly but dont push it until you have the form down to a science. Done on a regular basis, you will love the feeling of power and the thickness in your back, traps and legs that will come from hoisting the heavy stuff. Get em!

your supposed to scrape your shins? if u were doing this wouldnt your shoulders be in front of the bar?

It all depends on the persons body structure. When i first started deadlifting i scraped my shines also. Now that i have found the groove for my body i don't even touch my shins and the bar starts about 2-3 inches away from them.

yeah i'm not much a shin scraper myself.

like heavywear said, you should be able to up your weight fairly quickly but getting the form down is more important.

all this deadlift talk is getting me psyched up to pull something BIG (for me) this weekend. Maybe I'll take some pics....

I'd like to see them...try to get them all thru your motion.....

Only 3 sets, and I'm already addicted

The insanity begins, yes Deads are addicting. Just make sure that your back is staright and you lift with yourhead looking up. The weight increases really easy, but worry about form. I might try to have my frined take a pic if I can get him to come up with his cam. Good luck...
