Weight Issues & how to overcome them

I just wanted to post something for any ladies on here regarding general weight loss.

It's SO hard to lose weight, as many of you know. You try diet after diet and the process is slow and grueling and you come up with excuses on a daily basis. It can suck, I definitely know.

I used to be incredibly overweight. But as of today, I'm down 71 pounds (14 away from my goal) and down 6 pant sizes. So I just wanted to give some hope to anybody on here who feels like their weight loss goals will never happen.

I'd also like to say that now that I'm almost done, I've learned two things:

1. The weight loss battle, and I'm sure this goes for many of the ladies on here that have different goals, is so mental. You can say you want to lose weight all you want, but if you're not prepared mentally, it won't happen. I know that sounds like bullshit. But I told my ex boyfriend that I wanted to lose weight for months. I went to the gym pretty regularly and ate ok, but at the end of the day not much was happening. When I finally became motivated, it flew off...and look where I am now.

2. If you're the type of woman who needs to lose a bunch of weight, like I did, meaning not just a couple extra pounds you gained over the holidays or something, you need to stop thinking about going on a diet. A diet is not what you need. If you're excessively overweight, like I was, you need a lifestyle change. There is NO such thing as a diet that will have permanent effects if after that diet, you revert to your old ways. So find a diet that works for you, one you'd be ok with daily forever. Not some drastic, garbage diet you'll get off as soon as the weight is gone.

That's all. Now that I've learned these two things, I'm smaller than I ever have been in my adult life and happier and more confident than ever. I know it sounds like some nonsense motivational speech, but its true. 71 pounds doesn't lie. :)

My mantra ... and nobody wants to hear it! It's so frustrating, women need to get out of diet thinking, it just defeats long term success.

WOW....sage advice in this post.

Totally agree that if one wants to maintain a substantial body change, like your 70lb weight loss, a "diet" has to be something you can imagine yourself living with indefinitely. People typically think of a diet as something to suffer with temporarily to achieve a short term body change goal, then abandon it. Know that as soon as what you eat changes, your body will follow suit....for better or for worse.

Great post, I went through a battle with my weight through my entire life. From being anorexic and below a healthy weight to above a healthy weight. It is great when you can look in the mirror and know that you are healthy.. that is beautiful. Keep up the good work!

Wow 71 pounds,OMG!

Great post,I'm battling the bulge,my own fault, when I was laid up for 2 years,I ate to feel better...then had a hystorectomy and grew two asses....
Diets only work for some, once my body figures out my throat hasn't been cut(explains less food) it goes into survival mode and I quit loosing weight. Exercise and eating better were easy when I was healthier,I didn't have to worry about weight.

I've lost only 10 pounds ,in 4 months, but I lost a couple inches in good places and my clothes are fitting better,so weight loss is relative... when you can move that bra hook in an inch,it's a good thing, just hope I don't loose my boobies, that would suck...

The "bulge" is on notice, and it's being shoved off slowly. I didn't grow this second ass overnight so it will take time. I'm working out, eating better and seeing the weight come off about as slowly as it creeped on. I gained about 10 pounds per year, creeping decimalism...

How long did it take to loose 71 pounds?

AWSOME!!! perfect example of mind over matter, if you can't get the frame of mind going then it doesn't matter!
