It all comes down to this.
The hometown team is set to take on Cuba in the round two finale Wednesday with everything on the line.
Puerto Rico wins, it's in, and the next stop is San Diego for the semifinals. Dicky Gonzalez will take the mound for Puerto Rico.
A win by Team Cuba will allow it to advance to the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic.
The losing team will be eliminated from the tournament.
Puerto Rico beat Cuba last week, 12-2, in a game called after seven innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. Cuba had not lost a game in that fashion since 1983, and it had not lost at all in its last 19 games of international competition.
Make no mistake the Cuban team will be ready. The club rebounded from the loss against Puerto Rico to defeat Venezuela in the first game of the second round.
Added Cuban pitcher Pedro Lazo: "When Puerto Rico beat Cuba, everybody said that was a knockout and Cuba was already out and gone for the whole championship, whole tournament. Cuba is not gone. Cuba is still here to play, and whoever wants to beat Cuba will really have to sweat it out."
