Variations of Quad Extensions

have my training parter add manual resistance aka push down on the pad on the positive and/or the negative portion of the rep.

it kills, like i would do maybe 5 reps on my own and then he would push down on as many as i could possibly do till i basically want to cry. it's fun! :D
 
I like to take the leg extension machine and throw it aside on my way to the squat rack. Sometimes I'll use my right arm, sometimes my left. To really mix it up I'll occasionally grab it with my teeth and give the sucker a whirl. Even better when someone's in it:D

Seriously though...I do them for high reps, little rest. I think that they may help with my sled dragging and harness pulling...

We have a STRIVE machine at our gym that has an adjustable cam so you can place the emphasis of the weight anywhere in the movement you want. I but the pin at the bottom and fool around there until my legs feel like they're going to blow up. No rhyme or reason to the strategy, just as many adjustments, and sets as I can handle that day... But most important is that you do this only after you've squated, or leg pressed all you can!!!
