UFC 57: Liddell vs Couture 3

MikeMartial

New member
Once again, another PPV UFC event, and the fight card with my predictions.

Chuck Liddell Vs. Randy Couture

While I'm a huge fan of Chuck, I have to go with Couture on this one. I think he's a smarter fighter, and realizes his weaknesses, while Chuck thinks he can just pound away and win. Look for a fast takedown by Couture.

Frank Mir Vs. Marcio Cruz

While Mir has been out of the game for a while, he'll be hungry for a win to get him back into title shot range. Mir, 100%

Renato Sobral Vs. Mike Van Arsdale

I haven't seen fights by either fighter, but Renato has more professional fights under his belt, so I'll go with him.

Alessio Sakara Vs. Elvis Sinosic

Once again, I don't know these fighters all that well. I'm going with Elvis.

Brandon Vera Vs. Justin Eilers

Vera, easily.

Paul Buentello Vs. Gilbert Aldana

I've never been a fan of Buentello; he strikes me as the same type of fighter as Sylvia--big, and difficult to fight, but really not overly skilled. Aldana.

Jeff Monson Vs. Branden Lee Hinkle

If they actually show this fight, then it'd be a good time to grab another drink or fill up the chip bowl. Way too many guys over 200 fighting, could be a slow night. As for this fight, flipped a coin, and I'll go with the Snowman.

Nick Diaz Vs. Joe Riggs

Ahhh, now this could be a great fight. Hopefully Riggs being 170 isn't an issue anymore, and he's back to his psycho self. As badass as Riggs is, I have to go with Diaz on this one. May be the best fight of the night.

Keith Jardine Vs. Mike Whitehead

How Whitehead is even getting a PPV fight is beyond me; Matt must have forgiven him for his pathetic showing during the TUF season, and pulled a few strings. Regardless, Keith will take it.

So, there you have it. I have to pull a 14hr nightshift tonight, so I'll only catch the results via the internet if I have time. The rest of you lucky feckers can sit back and enjoy the show!! :D

here's mine

Chuck Liddell (ko)
Frank Mir (better fighter and looked huge)
Mike Van Arsdale
Alessio Sakara
Brandon Vera
Gilbert Aldana
Branden Lee Hinkle
Joe Riggs(did anyone see the weigh-ins? this fight should be the best)
Keith

Chuck Liddell over Randy... This will go a few more rounds than last time though.

Frank Mir...Hes my favorite fighter plus he looked like a tank at the weigh-ins

Babalu over Van Arsdale... Babalu has more ways to win and he hasnt lost since november 2002... This guy is the future LHW champ.

Sakara over Sinosic... Sinosic has a losing record and Sakara has heavy hands.

Brandon Vera over Justin Eilers... Eilers is a meathead.

Diaz over Riggs... This has fight of the year written all over it. I hope this fight goes the distance.

317 CHUCK LIDDEL -165
318 RANDY COUTURE +130

Someone should set up a bookie event, I'm karma light right now tho.

Chuck Liddell Vs. Randy Couture

Chuck won via KO in 2nd round. Randy announced retirement

Frank Mir Vs. Marcio Cruz
Cruz won in the first round. Mir got cut BAD.

Renato Sobral Vs. Mike Van Arsdale
Renato by RNC

Alessio Sakara Vs. Elvis Sinosic
Not on the PPV

Brandon Vera Vs. Justin Eilers

Vera, easily. - and that is the truth!

Paul Buentello Vs. Gilbert Aldana

Buentello won in the 2nd round. Aldana took a beating, but gased too much in the 2nd.

Jeff Monson Vs. Branden Lee Hinkle

Monson did pretty well. Won by submission

Nick Diaz Vs. Joe Riggs

Pretty decent fight. Riggs won via decision

Keith Jardine Vs. Mike Whitehead

Not on the PPV

Randy had a little slip throwing a left hook & Chuck hit him w/ a right cross sending him down. Chuck then pounced & Big John stepped in and stopped the fight.

whenever Justin eilsers goes out, it's not just a ko it's a KTFO...he faceplants and everything
any word on why the Sakara fight wasn't on the card
I liked his last fight and hated the ending so I was looking forward to seeing him fight again

Liddell has good takedown defense... I don't tihnk it will be that easy. Just like everyone else, Liddell for a KO

Nice prediction, but your a few days overdue ;)

Was it just me, or did Couture seem like he was "taking it all in" for the last time? When he walked into the octagon, it looked like he was smiling, thinking "this is the last time I'll be here". I wonder if he would have announced his retirement even if he had won.

Theres a video on ufc.tv where he says that even if he won he was gonna retire.

I don't think that was actually Arlovski; looked a helluva lot like him, though, but I thought it was just a trainer/friend type of dude.

Does Arlovski train with Couture?

Since Randy moved to Las Vegas he has been training with many fighters including Arlovski, Bas Rutten and others. He left his team Quest guys but supposedly maintains a good relationship with them. He wants to get into the movies now and will be releasing a book later this year written with Loretta Hunt of FCF magazine.

There are also rumors that he is looking to open a new gym in the Los Angeles area.

Well, it's good he has things going on for him. He went out in style, the only thing better could have been beating Chuck and retiring the same night.

I'm pretty sure Randy is smart enough not to pull a Gracie years from now and sign a deal to get your ass kicked by someone a lot younger.

It would've been cool way to go out for Randy, but not so great for the sport. With the UFC still trying to get a foothold in the legitimate sporting world, the last thing it needs is a champion of a popular weight class to leave the sport.
