Training legs with knee brace?

thx9000

My left knee has this really common "tibula fibula" something or antoher deal going on. Basically the doc says my knee cap is incorrectly positioned and this allows the tibula to grind against the inside of the knee cap durring certian movements.

Stair master, and versa climber are pure hell and even a bike hurts a bit. Things like squats, are okay but not great. Leg extensions are torture. Anyhow, I want to do legs.

The doc got me this little donut brace that pretty much makes all the pain go away. No problem with heavy squats or leg extensions. I asked about doing legs with the brace on and he was basically like, "I cannot recommend that." While he said, "absolutely no" when I asked about roller blading and skiing. So, I interpret "cannot recommend" as "you'll probably be okay." Anyone have a similar situation? What have you done? Non-compund movements get old fast...

I used to have the same problem with my knee when I was younger...and the doctor said the same thing to me. So...you know what I did? I put the brace on...and continued doing legs like I had before. If you take extra precautions with your knee and don't OVER do it...I think that you will be fine.

I continued playing basketball and running...and eventually, my knee quit hurting.

If everyone listened to a doctor when he said "I recommend you not doing that..." I'm sure a lot of people would not have achieved what they have. It's a risk...so...are you willling to take it?

There's no excuse for you not going to another doc, though. You were in WAY too much pain. These are two totally different situations. :)

Wow, I hear this almost every night from my girl:)

thx9000, I have to wear a brace almost daily. Its mandatory when I train legs, otherwise my right knee collapses and thats not fun with a loaded bb above you. Make sure the brace is good, and squat away. Just keep your form perfect, and you should be good to go
