Training for a 'contest'...

Anyone else find it to be 'fun'?

Lots of pressure?

Workouts are more intense?

More structured life?

Learning a lot more about training AND your body???

The only comparison I can make is to training for my indoor soccer, since I've never been lucky enough to have the chance to compete in a strongman contest or something similar (I'd love to, but they don't really exist around here :D).

Preparing for the start of a new season is the best example. You know that if you don't put in the required effort and do all of the right things, you're going to get burnt out on the pitch. Sure, you let yourself down. That's hard enough to live with. But you also let your team-mates down. So yeah, lots of pressure. People's expectations can weigh you down and its easy to miss the point of why you're really doing it...

Fortunately I'm only playing recreational soccer now, with a bunch of mates. Our first season starts tonight. It will be good for my GPP and lifting performance, plus of course, staying healthy. But my focus has now shifted to lifting and lifting damn hard, having given up the serious stuff.

1. I find it to be a blast! I am enjoying my workouts even more.

2. No pressure for me. First contest, niothing to lose, everything to gain.

3. Workouts are as intense as always. But, structured a bit differently.

4. pffffttt......:D

5. YES!!!!

I always find it more fun when I have something I'm training for.

I do feel more pressure training for a contest. I have all my workouts prepared in advance, so I know what weights I'm supposed to use.

Workouts are definitely more intense. Gotta reach my goal!!

Yep, life is more structured. I know that proper nutrition and rest are important as well as training, so I have to get my crap together durning my training cycle.

I'm always learning more about training and body. I've found that each time, I learn a little more about both :)

I find that I almost have to have something to train for. If I go too long in between meets, I get kinda bored and almost burnt out.

when i have a goal a deadline, i feel like im in a race against the clock. tick tick tick i can hear it everyday. do i want to train hard, or hurry and go out this saturday (tick tick tick) its like a little demon haunting me. everything is focused around the preperations. think of different exercises or ways to make it harder on me so that i can perform my best (tick tick tick) oh its driving me crazy. i feel like im being lazy, my normal training, my normal eating sleeping habits will not do!!!!! i need to eat all of my meals........... i need to get my full 8 hours sleep. i need to push myself to the breaking point in the gym......... i dont have time for recovery, i have to lift this hard heavy weight more times, more intense because i will not loose this race !!!!!!

tick tick tick..................... GOSH I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:kaioken: :kaioken:

Lots of pressure?-The pressure is definitely on.After a contest I always think that there had to have been a better way of preparing. In the last few weeks of preparation I feel like I should be doing alot more(an amount that would definitely lead to over training),but I have to try to hold back

Workouts are more intense?-Workouts are more intense. My focus is better and I usually end up trying anything that Im pretty sure will help out-better eating, different excercises, looking at my own form to see what might need changed to help etc..

More structured life?-That is really true.It seems like EVERYTHING(eating, what I eat, sleeping, workout times, what Im going to do in a day..Things that should probably always be planned out lol) is planned out ahead of time, and things are not looked over.Everything and more, that had been planned is done

Learning a lot more about training AND your body???-Im constantly learning. In the past I never realised how much little things done during an event, can actually cost you.I have heard guys saying"move this way""lift it and go,like this",because"it should give you an extra second or so"..I never thought that it was that important, and just last weekend found out how important every bit of time actually is

I think it is one of the worst feeling untill about a week out from contest time. You are wondering how others are training. if you are doing enough. Shit I woke up yesterday @3:30am and did some sprints cause I was thinking someone here might be training then :( . Don't get me wrong your workouts get intense and focus is threw the roof but man oh man it kills my social life. My gf is gonna kill me...

my 1st time to "prepare" for a contest was last week. very interesting. if anything, i may have "specifically" worked too long for that one contest, i was almost burnt out on those exercises 3 weeks before time. i feel like i might have been better doing the tourney events every other week and something that works the same muscles similar up until 8 weeks out maybe, i worked on those specific events for about 6 months, haha. but they are the basic strongman events that will get my core strong enough to do alot of other events as well. i did train better and live more regimented than i have in years.

of wolf and man, those seconds do count don't they. u get really ticked when people beat you by less than one second on an event. i know that yoke was dern close with 3 or 4 of us. like 2 seconds separated 4 competitors.

1. Sure! Its fun

2. I think pressure comes from beginning all the cutting diets and being able to do the same exercises with the same stamina. I found it hard being on a low carb diet and get to do the coreography gracefully

3. More intense and more focused.

4. Actually I have a structured life with regard to my workouts.... its the other things (social life ) I have to deal with :(

5. Every workout is learning something new and of course learning how my body responds to all
