Losing weight is a mystery to most people. If you’re like all of the other people who want to lose weight out there you’ve probably tried everything. The problem with most diet plans is that they’re too strict and hard to follow. With the right diet and exercise routine you can lose weight quickly and easily. Below are the 5 most common mistakes people make when they’re trying to lose weight.

Mistake #1: Skipping Breakfast in the Morning

Haven’t you ever heard the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”? Eating a healthy breakfast can help kick-start your metabolism. There have been studies that show that people who eat breakfast lose more weight on average than those who skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast will generally lead to eating more throughout the course of the day. Eating every meal during the day will help to avoid excessive hunger which can lead to over-eating.

Mistake #2: Too Much Fat

Fats are found in almost every type of food. Fat is actually essential to the body but taking in too much fat can lead to weight gain. Did you know that your body will actually convert excess carbohydrates into fat? A diet high in both carbs and fat can lead to excessive amounts of fat being accumulated on the body. Cutting back on fats doesn’t have to be difficult though. You can monitor the amount of fat you take in to make sure you’re staying below 20-30 grams of fat per day. Eating fish is a good way to get healthy fats you body craves.

Mistake #3: Diet is too Strict

You might believe that a strict diet will help you to lose weight but the truth is the more you restrict your diet the more likely you are to fail. A successful diet comes from finding healthy alternatives for all the foods you love to eat. You may be able to lose a little weight at first when following a restrictive diet but in the end you’re much more likely to get sick of your diet and go back to eating whatever you want. Gradual changes can help you make healthier decisions every day without even having to think of it as dieting.

Mistake #4: Not getting enough Water

Hydration is important to so many aspects in the body including digestion and even metabolism. It’s recommended that you get eight 8 oz servings of water per day, although if you’re exercising this should be quite a bit more. Drinking coffee, tea and even alcoholic beverages doesn’t count towards you 64 ounces a day as they contain ingredients which can actually cause you to become more dehydrated than you were before you drank them. Pure water or water mixed with lemon is a great way to get your daily dose of hydration.

Mistake #5: Lack of Physical Exercise

Sure, it may be possible to lose weight with diet alone or even with exercise alone but nothing will help you lose more weight faster than by combining a healthy diet with a regular exercise routine. It takes about 4,000 calories to lose a pound of weight. This means you’ll have to work out for hours to lose a single pound or practically starve yourself to avoid taking in an additional 4,000 calories. Fortunately, when you combine diet and exercise the calories will add up fast. Additional muscle mass built from exercising will help boost your metabolism allowing you to burn calories all day, even while you sleep.

20-30 grams of fat is way too low even for trying to get thin IMO. What about all the good fats??? If you're talking about restricting your diet too much, trying to stay below 20 grams of fat in a day is likely to make anyone quit. I'm not sure that's even possible with my caloric needs personally. Do you do this? I agree with the others, but unless you're on a 1200 calorie diet, you should be getting at least 40-50 IMO. I don't believe in cutting any macro down to that level.
