Do you like living there?

Ever think of moving to the US?

Were you born and raised in Canada? If so, why/how did your family first move there?

i thought about moving to canada but you people don't make shit for money there. is real estate appropriately priced or does it seem high priced?

I was born and raised here actually been thinking about moving to the US. It depends on work the fastest way to move to the states from Canada is to get a job offer there.

I like it here. It's 29C today, beautiful and sunny. (84F)

I don't think of moving to the US.. I may move to a different country in the future, but the US is not likely to be it.

I was born here, raised overseas and came back when I was 10.

I like it here....I like having four distinct seasons, Tim Horton's coffee, few concerns about some yahoo pulling a gun on me, (usually) hockey being the marquee sport, free health care, easy access to juice {posession of which is LEGAL here}, ect...

I've never considered moving to the United States. If I ever were to do so, it'd have to be the Northeast US, because it isn't all that drastically different from Canada climate-wise.

As to why my family moved here: Mother's side immigrated here from Poland after the war...grandfather started off working in a gold mine in Northern Ontario (as did a lot of immigrants back then), then eventually worked for the Canadian Coast Guard. My father, a physician, moved here from Nairobi, Kenya. Both cases, it was an opportunity to come to a country where you can earn a good living and enjoy freedom.

Canada is awesome.. moved here from tokyo in 2000. Love the winter, love the snow, love to snowboard. Love the lakes, love the summer, love those whaducallem, waterjets or something lol. Love the openness ( of space and of people), love the green (forests), mmmmmmm oh yah tim horton's is gr8 before a lecture in the winter. hehe. Oh oh oh , hockey " GO LEAFS GO" and the flames, sens are gr8 too. Do u know how fucking awesome it is to ride here in summer, specially around northern highways along the fields!!! I agree this place is not too much for the money, but the culture and the people here are very rich in their hearts. Now i am not even done with canada. Are u nuts, i am not even thinking about states yet. There is not enough time to think about moving to states. why would i? you tell me, i love it here.

i would never live anywhere else. great place to live. nothin against the us but i just love it up here. my granparents were born in idaho and my brother lives in LA. i like to visit but would never live anywhere else

- I like it, except for our politics which is more on the left side. Montreal is a nice place to live. The rest of Canada is So-so...

- Yes I'm thinking about moving to the US one day. Florida, Texas...

- Yes. Dad came here in 1967. He first left Spain in 1962 for France (Spain was a shithole back then) but then ran away cause the French Revenu Service was looking for him (he never paid taxes in France).

I love the land up there. The people.....well, they're Canadians :whatever: ;)

I could live there. Just might...

Born in the East and raised in TO for all my life...

Originally, I thought of moving to the States when I first got out of college, but now that I have kids the US is not really an option any more. I'm sure its not all like South Central, but the media would tell me otherwise and given how the public education is what it is in Canada vs the States, I'm staying here.

My boyfriend is Canadian. I spend about half the year in Canada. So far, my only experience in Canada has been in Ontario. I love Canada! I wish I could legally move there without having to marry him. Finding a job in my career in Canada in order to be able to move there may be harder. In a few weeks I am going to drive from Ontario to somewhere out East in Canada.

I like Canada better than the US. The people are much more friendly. Canada (at least Ontario) is so much more culturally diverse. Diversity is more accepted. Canadians are much more health consious than Americans. The exchange rate on the US dollar is a plus to why I like Canada. Although it sucks lately. The 15% sales tax sucks though. Only being able to buy alcohol only at LCBO stores or The Beer Store sucks too. You can't just buy it at a gas station, grocery store, etc. like you can here.

I think I said that wrong. I don't think the sales tax is 15%. There are two different taxes. GST and PST or something like that. Anways, together its at 15%. You get charged one for some stuff and two for others. I don't really know the whole breakdown or how they do it.

It's...ok. When winter hits hard I fantasize about moving to the US. The summers here are amazing though, and they make the rest of the year bareable. I'm in a shithole province/city right now, so moving anywhere would be nice.

I'm staying where I am for the next few years anyway. After that, we'll see...

I went to Banff, Canada and stayed at the 4 (or was it 5?) star hotel there. That place is THE SHIT!! I'm seriously considering moving to Canada after I get out of college. I'd like to live on a ranch there for about 6 months or so, and be a guide, hunt, etc.

I am very seriously considering a move to Canada.

Police states just are not my cup o' tea.

Any nation that would re-elect ............................ is somewhat brain dead.

Just my opinion though.

They don't suck.. they are the little imperfections that makes us canada. The taxes are high because we are getting free health care and much more. The wheather, well some people are well adopted to it and love the winters. I would hate it in florida, summer all year long, i would be bored to hell. And don't forget our summers are warm too. You should come up in summer, u will love it. The government... well lets say they make too many false promises to win the votes, but overall I am pretty proud of how they are handling the states affair. People will never be satisfied.

oh i forgot .. and u will always be no 2 or 3 or 4 in that matter in hockey. *shrugs*

Sorry Sub, but you've said a few things that I really hate.

I've always hated this statement. "At least we get free healthcare!" Look. I've got money and willing to pay for a little more and better service. So, I should get it. BUT, NOOO. Everyone has to get equal footing. BS.

Also, let's not kid ourselves. Look at our taxes. It ISN'T free and the coverage is declining all the time.

Yay! We're number 1 in hockey! Fuck GDP, education, economy, healthcare, social services, and everyting else. We've got hockey and beer!

I'm sure you see the point.

Canada has a lower percentage in poverty, a lower ratio of debt, far healthier people, superior social services, and virtually no enemies.

But that alll pales in comparison to the really important thing. Canadians are generally not disgusted with their leadership and national direction over the past 20 years.

As a photographer, I have a lot of backgrounds. One is a large flag type photo background. It isn't doing very well with a lot of adults. They are pretty damend angry. Disgusted actually.

Great! Then we should be proud of that and not the "free healthcare" and the hockey / beer. Everytime a post comes up like this, its always hockey and beer. Face it, we're fucking hicks of the North sometimes...

oh common Ender matey... i am not a liberal or anything so don't take it there. You wanna pay a little more for better health care?? honestly, u don't realize what lacking health care looks like. And its not like its going to get worse. lol honestly. I am sure some problems are there to be addressed. And they will be. And don't you say anything about hockey and beer. It keeps us happy. although there is no hockey this year. I agree that we have to do better. I know our government has to be more vigorous and i respect the fact that u recognise those defiencies and i hope u do more about it than just expressing it in internet forums. Cheers bud.

Obviously you haven't seen the averatge income in Toronto of late. Especially among immigrants.

The healthcare issue is a big box of worms waiting to be opened. Let's just say this. The newspapers are full of horror stories of people getting sub-standard care and having to go south to get the latest and greatest. I have yet to hear of any Ameriacns going to Canada for their "superior healthcare".

Let's not even count the number of highly trained Can. doctors who head to the US for higher-paying jobs. Why shouldn't they?

Sorry but i'm not into 15% sales tax. Why should *I* pay MORE OF MY MONEY just to please other people? Where am *I* getting benefit for *MY* money? Who in the gov't is accountable to the people for spending that tax money? Nobody.

Socialism is not my cup of tea. And most intelligent and educated and successful and rich people will agree. Taxing the rich, giving to the lazy and undeserving isn't the solution.

Yes, for private healthcare.

And its not like its going to get worse. lol honestly. I am sure some problems are there to be addressed. And they will be.
At the end of the day, the problem with the government takes care of everything thinking is "and how is the government going to pay for that?"

i hope u do more about it than just expressing it in internet forums.
What better way to deal with the problem then to bitch on EF? lol :)

Actually, it wouldn't be so bad if they just said what they were going to do and how they were going to spend the money.

Like the Mike Harris "revolution", I always laughed when people bitched about how this service and that service was cut because he DID tell people in his election promises.

jesus i dont get it why people think its so isolated. ya it might be colder but hey. it is a great place to live. summer are very warm. i dont think taxes are bad in alberta either. and there is lots of work in the oilpatch in alberta. i dont know about the rest of the country but i like living in Alberta

I have had enough of this. I don't know what it takes to make some people appreciate the good things about their lives and country. Obviously some of you have never been outside canada to a third world country. All you do is to look up to states. I don't wanna go there. I depart from this thread.

You just have to look at the recent goings-on in Haiti, Sudan, Bangledash, etc. to make you appreciate living in a secure, comfortable place like Canada. I feel I might've done better financially if I would've been born in the U.S., but it comes with a pricetag of increased violence/aggression, and having most of the world hate you. Europe has distinct history and culture that we don't have in North America...us being fairly young countries in the bigger picture. Over the years I have found that I connect best with people from Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark...I mostly wish that I would've been born in the area instead.

All in all though, I'm happy being Canadian. Not neccesarily proud to be one, but happy nonetheless.

I was not a fan of Harris but at least he was honest can't say the same for the new ass in power. The new health care preimium in Ontario is such a joke what extra do I see for it nothing!

I think all and all we have a great standard of living here in general, but to become truely wealthy have to move to the US. The more money you make here the more they take away.

The general level of violence and aggression here is absolutely abhorable.

One has to use deadbolts on both the outside and inside doors of their home. Security systems are frequently needed.

One cannot leave valuables in their cars overnight. Damned good chance the windows will be broken out if a $150 camera is visible during the daytime.

Not feeling safe is a very bad feeling. Very bad.

But even that pales in comparison to a new trend. The income of all but the wealthy is in a nosedive. Wages are rapidly declining. Rapidly.

Come to America if you want to be wealthy? Sure thing.....take a chance. Modern America really could care less about you if you achieve anything less.

Your job will suck unless you have serious, state of the art, skills. Overall job quality has been flushed down the proverbial toilet. Most businesses have to be a sweatshop in order to survive.

I love living in Canada. The diversity here in Toronto where I live is absolutely spectacular. It is a wonderful place to raise children because they are immersed into many different cultures right off the bat. Moreover, Toronto is one of the biggest cities in North America (fourth largest I believe). We are a smaller version of NY/LA in a sense but without the over population and clutter. Toronto has a big business district, some of the best entertainment you'll find, LOTS of attractions and events, great shopping (food, clothing, etc etc), clean, good healthcare and education (though it isn't perfect, it is better then what MOST people get), and the list goes on and on. Another great thing is having four distinct seasons as someone else mentioned. I cannot imagine Christmas without snow as it is in Florida or Texas or California etc etc. Snow is a beautiful thing and allows for seasonal activity like skiing, going for a sleighride, sitting by a fireplace sipping on some warm hot chocolate, etc etc. Another thing is that we are neutral nation and don't have a bullseye on our backs as you guys have down there. Moreover, Canada doesn't have nearly the amount of media sensationalism as you guys down there. On average people are healthier up here.

I will very soon be having a residence in the US as well. I will get the best of both worlds. Also, the bulk of money made is in the US. It doesn't get any better then that. Make money in the US, maintain a residence in Canada. Obviously our money isn't nearly as powerful as yours down there, which is the biggest issue. IF you can make money in the US but live in Canada that would be the most ideal situation to be in.

I was born and raised in Canada, but the rest of my family immigrated in 1980. They gave up their lives and have reclaimed it. Opportunity is the name of the game and there is plenty of that up here in Canada.

Some of my weirder experiences (to me anyway) in the State's is having to do transactions through plexiglass and microphones with the person on the other side. Cops approaching my car with their hand on their gun when I'm simply looking up a map on the side of the road. Finding myself in desperate looking ghetto neighbourhoods that look like they were once a war zone or something. A person telling me how their neighbourhood doesn't have much problem with n*ggers because there's a KKK chapter nearby. These are all things that are foreign to me, and stand out. And I live right in the heart of Toronto, so I'm not some small town hick.

I think British Columbia would be an awesome place to go on vacation.

1) I appreciate the good things. However, I don' t have pollyanna views on the bad things. Healthcare is crap compared to that in the States. I work and pay for my own benefits. Yet, I have to wait in line for public services. If I didn't work and didn't pay for my own benefits, then I'd LOVE it here.

2) If you are refering to me, I have been and live abroad for awhile. I realize the different between what its like in say India and here. However, why bother settling if you know you can get more? In college, I earned about 20k while studying. Should I have settle for 50k when I got out? Or, should I stop at 100k?

Actually you pay more taxes in Cali and your politics suck 20x more. Soon, people wont be able to take a dump in Cali without some kind of license...

We have 7% sales tax. Then some provinces have their own sales tax. Income is different from one province to another one.
