To Diet , or not to Diet

Im stuck in a dilemma. Im not sure if i want to compete as a light 148 (140lbs), or diet down to 132's again. i think if i start dieting early, i can lose weight and not lose much strength... But im not sure.. 8 lbs seems like a lot to me.

And opinons on what i should do?

8 pounds doesnt seem too much...i would just lift at whatever you feel stronger at..but thats just me

This is what I think...

not to diet

You are 140 and 15 years old and you need to be gaining weight consistently and you would gain weight and strength at 15 even without training! Your body is in a growing state so keep feeding yourself and try to get up to 150 soon and keep going up.

At 15 there is no need for dieting for powerlifting. Dieting is for us who have at least reached our early 20's...Take advantage of your age you can make some of the best gains of your life in the upcoming years..Dont let dieting sabotage your potential in powerlifting

Eat lots of protein and food and lift in whatever class you end up in...I think that dieting is the least productive thing for a young dude like you.Remember you will need to gain weight to reach your goals..Move up in weight classes!

the main reason for dieting would be mainly to become a nationally ranked lifter..... maybe in top 5, for the entire teen division in the 132's.... Doing that, would get me into some bigger meets probably, and further my powerlifting career. And who knows.. maybe titan will be like "wow, that kid is strong... and he knows ray benemerito... we better sponsor him!"

and it wouldnt be a hard diet.. probably just sled dragging coupled with better eating habits... just so you guys know.

you could still be strong and know ray benemerito in a heavier class, couldnt you?

so, EAT. i outweigh you by 100 pounds..lol, and i'm younger than you..your lifts would be better, most likely

your a month and a week younger than me. The thing is, i cant just gain weight.. i try, and sometimes i'll just gain weight at sporadic times.

wow, i didnt know people had trouble gaining weight. lol...

i've gained at least 25 pounds a year for the past 3 years..i'm a big boy

i wish i could just..give some to you

lol, i've had points where i've down like 2 protein shakes a day, like 6 meals.. probably around 3500 calories.... and didnt gain at all.. and then i've had times where i've been on 2000 cals a day, and gained like 5 lbs.

i've been taking it at most 150-160 grams of protein a day for the whole summer...i gained 5-10 pounds anyways. my caloric intake was maybe enough to meet my BMR

If you can alter your macronutrient ratios, and still keep the total calories the same, and lose fat....go for it. Considered ALA?

I'm dealing with this dilema right now, myself.

im thinking abuot upping my fat intake, while lowering my carb, but keeping stuff like fruits and veggies in, oats in the morning or something.... and then a postworkout carb shake... so not reall a low carb, more like just a good carb diet or something.

if you couldnt tell already, im not great at diets.

i dont even know why i know about diets, but i do...instead of knowing more valuable stuff like training mumbo jumbo

dont diet. i assume your wanting to gain weight and strengt in the long run... dieting will inhibit this.

you mentioned wanting to get to a certain ranking... my advice, dont worry about it! its an illusion. powerlifting is so watered down with different federations, its almost impossible for any ranking to really mean anything. hell, your lifts could win a "world championship" if you went to the right meet... but then again, you could compare yourself to the guys in texas high school powerlifting and find that you wouldnt even qualify to go to the state championsips.

just lift for yourself, try to improve, and be happy when you break your own personal records.
