What are your thoughts of gaining mass and losing fat with this great activity. Hit me back on your thoughts.
PS> Im cutting
Hello Hulk,
I recently emailed my old coach about this exact question, so when and if he replies, I will let you know. My question was more about the gaining mass part--
In the meantime, here are a few activities that I suspect defy the usual swimming=cardio rule and will give you some mass. These are assuming that your gym has a generally not-crowded pool:
1. Bucket Swims: Very simple. Tie a rope the handle of a large bucket (approx. the diameter of your waist) and tie other end around your waist. Make sure the rope goes about 3' past your feet. Swim freestyle, and don't worry about the rope hitting your legs, it won't, just don't kick. Your arms will hurt like a bitch.
2. Treading Water w/ weights: get some dumbbells that, probably your own, as I"m sure the gym people would frown on you walking out with them. Tread water with FREESTYLE kick (not an eggbeater kick) holding the dumbbells out of the water (also, don't forget to hold your head out of the water, so you can breathe). If you can't do it for five minutes, get lighter weights. Try for ten minutes. Your legs will hurt like a mutha. If you don't drown.
Those are my two favorites for strength, and here is one of my favorites for cardio. I don't know what kind of swimmer you are, but this could be easily modified--
30x100 yds on a 1:40, resting for however many seconds are left when you hit the wall.
This set is always absolute murder on me, but you will feel like superman (or wonder woman, whatever) after you finish it.
If you would like more, I love to talk about swimming!!!
