Time to get serious

hey sexy ladies.

i feel like i have accomplished a lot within the last year and a half.. but over the last couple of months things haven't really been getting any better (or any worse!) and so, i feel like it's time to step it up another notch.

first semester: diet. second semester: cardio and muscle building

my diet has always been a little iffy. going from eating like an enraged cookie monster to eating like a overly-picky vegetarian who is afraid of cooties. i use to worry a lot about over eating... now i am starting to worry about under eating. i know that not eating enough can have terrible side effects and can cause damage to the metabolism, which is the last thing i want... so, i'm currently looking for more foods to add to my diet that i feel good about.

i signed up ($$$) for bikram hot yoga. i'm going to try to go at least 5 days per week. it's 90 minutes long and i sweat like a pig and give it everything i've got. this is (sort of) a new addition to my routine.. which is (lol - sad) running/walking and ab-ripper X. i want to start going to the gym again. this is where i really need help. since i moved, i miss my old gym... but... tobad, right? when i went to the gym, i would usually just do cardio, now i do that outdoors. what i want to start doing is lifting weight and strengthening.... this is a whole new thing to me. soooo what do you ladies recommend i do at the gym to really form, tighten, tone, whatever you want to call it, this frightening bland body of mine?? i want to be thin, and feminine, and all that, but, i also want my body to have some personality, know what i mean? i need something to work on. i really just need to keep on improving. i'm upping my standards. and i'm willing to do whatever it takes.

i guess what i am looking for is advice on weight lifting... how many days per week should a beginner be doing, and for how long? and is it really necessary to add protein shakes for this sort of thing, if so, whats the best ones and when should they be taken... also, should i start off doing 'everything' at the gym, just really light-weight (a friend recommended) or should i split it up?
