I just found out my younger brother (he's 20) got caught at the border for drug possession, I'm guessing it was a couple grams of hash and that's it.
I don't know what the fuck he was thinking going across the border with it but he did and now he's being held. He's a good kid and he has university
(second year nursing) in the fall as do I (4th year), and I hope he hasn't messed up his schooling with it.
He got caught in the US side, does anyone kow what he can expext for charges since it's his first offence?

I am no expert but if he has no record & get's good represenation he should be fine, misdemeanor.

"my friend got busted with 6 bottles of xanax's and that is what he got, first time ever arrested, 18yrs old, high paid lawyer too" he got a dwi a few years later and was sent to jail, he still there

Advice - bail his ass out pronto and call a lawyer... if weed, slap on the hand, but you do not want that on his record at all. What hospital is goign to hire a pot head "that is what they will assume when the get the abckground check done"

Okay I just found out he has court tomorrow morning and i'm not sure whether or not he has an appointed lawyer so i'm not sure if it's too late for me to bail him out, i don't know what to do. He was caught with 7 grams of mushrooms and 1 gram of hash, and his buddy had a pipe and a couple grams of weed.
Solidspine, he was caught going into the US.
I don't care how much money it costs I need to get him off with just a fine or something.
He lives in canada.

he was given the option of taking a fine at the time from the border which would have been $5000 and would have been done with it, but instead he took the option of getting the local US cops to deal with it as far as I know.

Look for a good US attorney if you have the money - BTW it may cost 5K to 10K to resolve the whole issue. Tell him to keep his mouth SHUT until he talks to an attorney.

Hell yes. Might seem like you're being robbed, which you are, but for sure it's going to cost much more and not just in dollars if proccessed by the US courts.

Okay i'm going to see if I can get him a good lawyer but they bumped his court date from next week to tomorrow so I don't know if i'll have enough time.
He was caught going into minnesota and is being held in grand marie which is about 45 min past the border and a couple hours from a bigger city called Doluth.

they will set bail, just bail him out "it is 10% of the amount at a bail bondsman" so I would expect a $5K bail which would cost you around $500, then find a lawyer, yeah, mushrooms are going to be a problem, good luck bro!

So he is coming from Canada to the US

I though he bought the stuff in Mexico and was caught coming back in to the US from Mexico.
Actually the customs fools on the California border can be pricks, Minnesota I would be surprised if does anytime,

They will most likely have him go to drug counseling or some similar BS




Minnesota's a relief, they are very Reasonable, I know a lawyer in Duluth but he is a corporate attorney,

Need to contact someone in Minneapolis.

They are going have him shoveling snow, and cleaning fish.

Im sorry to hear this about your brother. Im heading to the US this week from BC. Going to the Dave MAtthews concert @ The Gorge.

I so badly want to bring the goods with me cuz I know I have better weed (and hash)than anything I will find down there. but I woul dNEVER in a million years think of bringing it with me across the border.

Did I read somewhere that the US gov was trying to convict ppl arrested for hash possesion as terrorists? I know it sounds absurd, but everything the US gov is doing lately is ridiculous, so I wouldnt think it is out of the realm of possibilities.

okay i'll see if i can bail him out if the mushromms cause a big problem, hopefully he'll just get a fine and some hours or something, they already told him he'll be banned from the US so i don't think community hours will be possible. Soildspine, I was thinking the same thing about it being minnesota and they might be a bit more laxed, hopefully.


The stupidest thing about all of this is the way he got caught, he had a jar of protein powder and they told everyone he was with they were going to search them because of it.

Sorry to pile on, but if he gets any drug charge on his record he will no longer be eligable for Federal Student Finacial Aid. Terrible policy, but unfortunate reality.
