This Is Gonna Be A Stupid Post But Need Advice!

Ok its off topic. This is the second time two different people have come into my wife resturant and seen me and asked me to come to their camp and wrestle. Now i dont mean submission i mean pro wrestling. Its a small org like smokey mountain wrestling ETC. The do shows here in florida in fact its called CWF. Which is Championship Wrestling from Florida! When i was a kid CWF was a wing of the NWA, which later turned into WCW. SO for you wrestiling buffs this isnt the same thing.

I am a full time College Student and i dont work. So would you do it? I mean WWF ya. But to go to Highschools and fairs and act like a wrestler could be fun , but also embarassing. I have the card here and was thinking about callin it.

What do ya'll think?

It could be fun and interesting? There may even be some decent money in it but I would probably say, "no". If you get into the wrestling thing there will probably be a lot of travel involved and it takes a lot out of the body. Basically, you would be kissing your powerlifting career good-bye. It may be difficult to stick to a good training regimen. I don't know a lot about the business though, so the issues above may be minor and you may be able to work the wrestling into your schedule.

Well considering its kinda local (state) travel couldnt be that bad. I dont knwo i havent called. I would think the money would suck. Its not WWF! Unfortuatly. But ..who knows good point though on interfereing with my lifting, hell it would probably interefer with my studies as well. Its gonna take some thought.

Anyone else? Anyone no the bizz alittle?

I think that you should give it a chance Jay. I saw those pics of you benching and you do look like a wrestler already with the muscles, tan and strength and I can tell you have the personality from your posts. It would be tough to compete in powerlifting and wrestling at the same time though. You may want to try out the wrestling and see how it goes and if you dont like it-you are already established in powerlifing so either way you will do well.

Jay and the rest of the Fla lifters- I originally thought I was going to come up to Daytona for the June 1st meet but I can't. I just moved from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami and I am working all the time. Due to work and distance, I wont be training at Southside anymore, but I want to thank you all for all the replies from my thread about the contest last month. Thanks

I will maybe call them tommorow. I called around and some people i knwo , knwo them and said its fun. We'll see if it doesnt interfer with my training. And if i do it, i gotta be a heel! There is no way i am going to be a baby face! Bad guys in wrestling rule!

Anybody here every wrestle though? Just curious before i call them as to how much rehearsing has to be done.

Cytomel sorry you cant make it to Daytona. Was looking forward to meeting you. If something happens and you can make it blast on up. A1A all the way!

PLjay, go for it. You will kick yourself in the ass later in life if
you pass this chance by.

Who knows where this could lead. This may open other doors
for you. It could lead to big things. At the very least, it will
probably leave you with some good memories.

True, but a freind of mine told me they rehease at night. I will call them tommorow and see what they say. A couple hundred bucks a match is easy pay not to mention it may be fun as well. Holloaring at the crowd, getting boo'd! LOL sounds fun! But if its gonna interfere with my lifting i will simply say no. Pwerlifting is number 1. And until i lift what i want too i will lift hard till its done.

Jay- I don't know your whole financial situation, but I'd say if powerlifting is even half as important to you as I think it is to you, then you should decline the offer. It will interfere probably i more ways than one. Just my opinion.

Powerlifting is great but it doesn't pay the bills. This may be a small time offer but everyone has to start somewhere. Talk to Scott Taylor about wrestling -- he is a former wwf wrestler.

Well Jason, my gut reaction was to think that the ideal of wrestling for a small organisation was stupid. But after thinking about it, I think you should try it.

The odds are that you are not going to be the next Rock and you will probably end up not even liking it. But, if you never try it, you will never know. It could be you were made for pro wrestling or it could be a stepping stone to something else (fame, fortune, Governor?). You'll never know unless you try.

I know i'm stil a kid but I can be mature. Here's how I see it bro if you really love powerlifting and you can study and lift and not have to work go for it, when you finish college you know it's gonna pay off and obviously lifting has b/c look how awesome your lifts are. Now as for the money in it, it may be good or decent but really it's alot of traveling you might have to miss one or two workouts and "your crew" are not gonna follow you when you have to go to miami for one week to train with you then tallahassee(sp???) the next. so look at it as do you wanna lift wit ur crew and keep gettin stronger and break more records or stay somewhere round where you are and go into show bus??? Personally if cash aint a prob wit liftin and college I would stick with it but if u need the cash then any thing else that u do is gonna interfere with ur studys and u might not even finish college thinking that this is gonna last a liftetime and u'll quit lifting think u don't need it anymore.

Side note: damn i sound like my parents

Well theres very little money in this one. Its Florida Wrestling. I will call them , but i am leaning on just forgeting about right now. I dont need the little bit of money thats in it, to hender my lifting. I may do a match or too on my own term if its local , iam sure they would do that. But i dont like the idea of going from one town to the other. Not for me there. But we'll see. If i can stay local i might do a body slam or too! Who knwos it could lead to something later.

Ya knwo i told my wife the way i would get into real pro wrestling would be (had shaved head atthe time, looked meaner) when i go to the arnold classic as a heavyweight weighing like 280lbs with low BF% and i would be seen by Vince or someone. Kinda like the way Glen Chabot got seen. But i said in a kidding around fashion. A weekend here and there wrestling would be cool btu to go to diffrernt places on weekends like a carnie isnt my style.

When i call them i will let ya'll knwo what they tell me. And School is very important right now. Come hell or high water i will finish.

1dawg dont you or didnt you work full time, go to school and workout? You got lots of dedication man.

Thanks for the replies fella's. You guys are the shezzit!

give it a whirl, anythings worth trying once, just dont sign any contract that would lock you in, so if you hate it you can bail

here's the deal. if you have dreams of becoming a wrestler, i say shoot for it. usually people are at the bottom before they are at the top. if you can take the physical demand and the chance of injury and the hours away from school then by all means do it. even if you don't like it, i'm sure you can step away, but if you like where you're life is already headed and you have some sort of plan that has already taken off, stay on track.

enjoy yourself man...have fun!

p03t1c good advice bro. My wife and i do have a plan a very long drawn out plan that must be followed to a T in order for it to work. When you put it that way...

It would only be for fun like i said after reading what ya'll have said its NOT going to interfere with my life. It cant interfer to much or it cannot happen. A weekend here and there will be fine. I will talk to them tommoorow and see if that is a possibitiy. Like on a off week or a slack week offseason (the summer) i could rehearse then do it that weekend. And go back training , the when i fel like it, do it again. But in the big PLAN its not part of it, thats for sure. Now if the WWF called ...well that would be a different story!

Jay -- I am a very busy and motivated person. I do not require as much sleep as most people. I work 80 hours a week between 2 jobs, full-time student, wife + 3kids. Sunday is the only day I do not haev to work. My wife is a saint. There are days when I never see her but for maybe 5 minutes and that's just saying hi while I am changing. I need to work like this until I leave the service. I have almost enuf money put away so there is no worries for almost a year after I get out. My wife is nervous about me leaving the Air Force, but I am so ready to go.

I already have my bachelors degree and I am working on my masters. It doesn't need to be done before I get out, but it would be nice. It took me 10 years of fucking off to get my degree -- don;t do it that way. Even when it sucks, go to class, even when you are sick goto class. If you have to skip a workout, go to class, if you are tired, go to class. Don't stop going, not even for the summer. Stay focused and just get it done.

Dam 1dawg i knew you were dedictaed but dam that is hardcore. I cant even say i could come close to that. I am in summer term right now. I plan on going full time no breaks. I want a new career bad.

I guess you knwo what you wanna do when your out of the service. I hope you get a nice job that pays well and less time working. As strong as yu are now, i cant imagine how good you would be with less responsibilyty and more time to train and recupe.

wrestling

Powerliftingjay...let me tell you the little experience i had with pro wrestling....I wrestled in a little organization that my buddy started here in Florida...I learned a little from the guys that were running it, they liked my size and strength and athletic ability, they talked me into going to the power plant in Atlanta..I made it through it, never got a contract, but did what they called "house shows" for the wcw...In other words i got my ass beat by guys that had contracts..it was fun, but that training is so brutal on your joints..my training darn near went to a halt, my elbows and back killed me constantly, there is no way to powerlift while your wrestling, my training just turned into maintenace type training! One day I came off the top ropes, went to land on my back, my ribs drove up into my lungs, i bruised a lung severely! It might be fun, but man, that being thrown around and taking bumps, as they call it, on the matt tears your ass up! There is no way to powerlift and wrestle, you just dont recover!

Dam man you went to the power plant? Good job! Ya the traing is going to interfere with my powerlifting. It will always be there but i am beat up enough. But joint pain is the last thing i need . Helli have enough.

Thanks for the heads up!
