I'm debating on whether I should become a personal trainer. Can anyone give me their honest opinions about the pros and cons of the business or any type of insight in personal training. Thanks

This isn't what you are going to want to hear, but I used to know all of the trainers at Gold's Gym Venice, and I've known many from other gyms I've gone to . Many were my friends. When you come to know them over a period of years, for the most part you see first hand the incredible degree of burnout they all face. Most considered it a go nowhere career and felt they had made a big mistake ever getting into it, yet now they found themselves at 40 years of age, their youth spent, and with no marketable jobs skills and years behind the game for entering another career. A very few liked it year in and year out and were perfectly adaptable to having one client book at 5:30am and another at 7:30pm. The only people who seemed to really gain from it were the ones who were students. It let them support themselves modestly while flexably working around their classes. They usually left the personal training quickly once they had their degree and a job.
Life without job skills is a very tough thing. I've seen too many times the sad existence of people who did not truly look ahead in life at where they wanted to go. If you are young, look towards where you want to be 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 years from now. Decide if being a personal trainer is going to get you there.
just remember.. all that time you spend on yourself??? KISS IT GOODBYE!
you make a commitment to these people and then they can't be without you... you are their counselor and lifeline at times, and they can't live or train without you (or at least my clients can't)
true, its cool to see their lives turn around, see their bodies change, but when it comes time for yourself... it ain't gonna happen....
Along with the safisfaction of making a real difference in people's lives, you must also prepare yourself for some inevitable disappointment. There'll be clients who just won't apply themselves, no matter how good a trainer you are. Sure they might keep paying you and paying you, and you can make a living, but working with people only making a half-assed effort can be darn frustrating.
