The Value of The PUMP

It's funny how styles go in and out -- and the controversy about getting a pump goes on. But it shouldn't . It's all very clear.

There are two schools of thought. One is that the muscles need a pump to grow, the other is that the muscles need to handle more wight in order to grow. Well, one of those theories is wrong.

Strength is a derivative of weight training. But it's irrelevant how strong you are in regard to growth because you always have to push the muscles. In other words, if your max bench is 100 pounds for 10 reps, you need to do 12 reps, or 225 pounds for 10 reps. But if your maximum bench is 500 pounds for 10 reps and you only do 8 reps, well, you're stronger than the first guy, but you will not grow because you aren;t pushing your muscles harder!

As for the pump, it's what creates shapely muscles. Too many guys used "good form" as an excuse not to push hard and the "hardcore" trainers would deride it. But the "pros" train more with form than with weight. Sure, some are insanely strong, but a lot of guys were probably not as strong as a lot of guys here. Serge Nubret did curls with 25 pound dumbells! DO you look as good as Serge Nubret? LOL. Anyway, it was all about the pump. And it still is.
