Has anybody here bought the ebook offered here?
What are your thoughts on it?

And on a related topic.
Is there a particular type of weight training routine that you think aids in getting you real lean, just the weights.

I realize cardio & diet need to be a part of it too.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!
:)

Ive read the book and Nelson has some interesting viewpoints, some of which I agree with and others I dont. Overall it was a decent read.

Any weight training routine that keeps heart rate up will help to burn fat so with that in mind simply keep rest periods short. It can be dificult to train like this however if hypertrophy or strength are you goals since it can interfere with those goals but its more effective than cardio.

Thanks for your comment Zyglamail.

A followup question to you or anyone else.

Does it really make that much of a difference to do cardio on an empty stomach first thing in the morning? If so, how empty is empty? no coffee? (thinking it might speed you up & help the process a little)

Thanks in advance!

i have heard all of the hype of cardio in the morning on an empty stomach but i have a bone to pick with it.

1) im a competition bodybuilder...... so i do cardio 3-4 times a week when dieting for a show. so i try to save as much muscle while losing fat as possible..... i mean, thats what bb is all about.

when you wake up in the morning your body has been fasting for 6-8 hr your body is in a catabolic state, that means muscle wasting....... so going to do cardio when your body is already in that state would be vouluntarily sacricing muscle for some extra calories burned..... no thanks.......

i prefer to do my cardio at the end of my day...... inbetween my last 2 meals of the day at about 6pm at night. the same time frame i workout. i feel it burns up the calories that i put in through the day, and i go to bed knowing my metabolisim is up, then i wake up and have my biggest meal of the day.

just my, .02 cents...... but it works for me.

that makes a lot of sense. a lot of times when i go to play basketball in the morning, ill think about skipping food before so i can burn more fat, but then i just come home and eat a lot on the days i lift cuz i want to get bigger, so i think the best thing to do is eat before cardio and lean out slowly if it will save you muscle

to solve that problem, why dont you have a big protein shake in the middle of the night???

it would eliminate your "6-8 hour catabolic state", no?

also, the book should be great from what i hear. as soon as money frees up i'm DEFINITELY picking up a copy.

thats true, it would........ but im dieting right now for a show. if i did that it would be calories to do nothing. my point was that the cardio puts you in that state to start losing muscle, not a lot, but if you went and did cardio it would increase muscle loss greatly, this way you burn some calories sleeping but dont loose really any muscle, then wake up and have a much needed shake. i do that regulary when on the off season though.

let me ask you something then....

i'm currently at 192, 9% bf, 5'11, 26 years old.

my goal is 192 at 6% and so i'm incorporating a.m cardio 3-4 times a week.

now, i religously have 30-40g of whey powder in the middle of the night and after that i usually sleep for 4-6 more hours before my a.m cardio routine. would that extra protein in the middle of the night avoid a catabolic state when waking up?

i wouldnt wanna sacrifice ANY muscle! FUCK THAT SHIT!

what are your thoughts on that bro?

Whey, a fast-absorbing protein, is generally anabolic. Casein, a slow-absorb protein found in milk, eggs, and meat, is more anti-catabolic. It prevents muscle breakdown more than it builds muscle, persay. So if you want to prevent catabolism, I'd take 20g of whey and eat a steak or some eggs or something for your midnightly snack.
