That special time...

Curious. How do you structure your training around your period time (assuming your BF isnt so low you are missing them)...

The day before = FATIGUE. Cardio almost always suffers by like 50%
I find that on day 1 I can almost never do ANYTHING strenous.
Day 2 is usally a challenge, but do-able. After that alls well.

Do you guys scale back your routines at all, or skip? is there any truth to the old wives tale that your metabolism increases dramatically during the first few days? Has anyone ever tried to "use" this factor in their training cycles?

TO BE QUIT HONEST WITH YA I DONT TEND TO WORK OUT AROUND MY PEROID CAUSE I TEND TO BLEED HEAVIER THAN NORMAL SO I TAKE TIME OFF THE FIRST FEW DAY AND THEN AROUND THE TWO LAST DAYS DEPENDING ON HOW LONG YOUR PEROD IS MINE IS 5 DAYS I WORK OUT A LIL EXTRA MORE THAN NORMAL . ;)

Oh yeah, I bleed like a cut throat (wow, that was really nasty) but I don't think about it, just go on doing normal routine, I up my iron content and thats the only change :)

well wish i could ignore it but i just cant cause i feel like hell after i do exersice ............. i would feel like i just got hit by a damn truck lol

Yeah, I'm minutes away from that wonderful time myself. I too notice a significant drop in endurance and am more prone to feeling achy all over. Most of the time, I just work through it and find that a hard, sweaty cardio session does wonders for my mood and for relieving some of that water retention.

My big problem around that time is controlling the appetite increase and wild cravings. I have heard that your metabolism increases and that you can burn up to an extra 500 cals a day around that time, but I'm not sure I'd trust myself to eat according to my hunger pangs and cravings.

Spat, you talk a lot about listening to your body. This is something I was able to do well before I started dieting for comps. Now it seems I'm paranoid of eating too few cals in a day (fear of losing muscle mass) and am still very hung up on measuring my food. This, of course, flies in the face of trusting one's body and makes me feel that I have to clean my plate at most meals. Help. Any suggestions?

If I have cramps, working out definitely helps. Sometimes it seems like my cardio capacity is better during my period.

I thought I was just imagining things until I read how a woman's VO2max (oxygen capacity) can actually increase during her period.

I think Joan Benoit won the women's Olympic marathon while she was having her period.

Though, I have it, I just pretend it's not there. I make sure I drink plenty of liquids.

hehe in your case it isn't there though... so that's easy :) you must be in your 40th month or something by now? :)

I gotta say some of my best cardio sessions are done while i'm on my period but on the other hand i find my lifting isn't up to par. Since this is only 5 days a month I don't sweat it I just plug away and do my best.
Also, a few days before I'm gonna start, my appetite is CRAZY !!!...I'm sure I could eat non stop if I let myself..I've even eaten more than my man (who is 6'2, 257lbs) but it never seems to really affect my weight even if I do give in a little. Gotta love Mother Nature (not)
:)

LOL, I would definitely have to induce labor, heh? I've been lucky not to have it and can probably live without it for the rest of my life, but I suppose that's why we sometime call it the curse.

Hubby and I are going to try to induce labor this weekend :horny: This will give me an extra week to prepare for the first game of rugby j/k.

hey... aren't you due around LABOUR day??? hehe (not sure if they have that where you are, but i beleive its September 3rd... wouldn't that be ironic...)

or if you like you can have the lil one on my bday (aug 29th) i'd be honoured hehe :)

it's proper spelling!!! (okay its english/canadian spellings... that's the way i was learneded)... don't think it has anything to do with en francais?

it's brit phem

at least you didn't read a lot of british authors... now i tend to spell things -isation instead of -ization, etc.

I'll try to shoot it out on Wednesday, but this cuts into my rugby training, you know j/k:D

i'm usually good while i have my little one, however, before, i tend to be lazy etc. and crave junk.
:(

Walk the treadmill, hang out in the sauna, take a multi-vitamin and an extra B-6.

of course, one can always use one of those hormonally induced rages (i usually get a good one 2-3 days before starting) to get that natural adrenaline surge and lift the F$%^ out of the whole free weight area

im on day 3, and do bleed a lot (LOL at the super gross analogies you guys) but got a semi decent weight group in last night and will try to ramp it up a bit more tonight. Im in love with worldwide's Thermo-S25 these days (liquid ECA, or as my trainer calls it 'liquid crack')...got me through my ZERO energy night last night, although kept me up until 2 am. I know about ECA's before 3, but my period was kicking my ass last night so I thought Id give it a shot. That stuff packs a MAJOR punch though....my shotgun approach was probably a little extreme :eek2:

ok girls i think yall jinxed me .... hehehe i wasnt suspose to get my lovely monthly thing until next week thanks ....... hehhe no instead i got the damn thing on my birthday !!!!!! :bawling:
