supplement starting

When can you start taking supplements, as in whey, creatine and all that. Sorry for the :newbie: question but in terms of training, weight and bodyfat, is there a best time to start??:wavey:

I don't know much about creatine- but whey is just a meal replacement supplement. It's just a convenient way to get protein instead of baking a chicken breast. Real food is best, use protein shakes as minimally as possible.

Glutamine is good for recovery - for everyone I think (no specific time to start). Otherwise I take a multivitamin, echinchea when I get a cold, & ECA sometimes to help cutting.

I'm stuck! Even though for a month I've changed to doing five sets of 6 and upping the weights... whole body-wise, I can't get above that. Takes time, right?? If I go to sets of 8 for a month then 10 or so, that's better than creatine ... right? I understand creatine causes you to retain water, which I do anyways. A pro-bodybuilder/ trainer at my gym said creatine can help. I eat a lot of lean red meat but I assume that's not enough. Resting more might help, though since I train each body part twice a week.

wow, I can be verbose!

tnx for your feedback!

I mean that if I do 5 sets of 6 using 5 or so lbs more [given good form] than what I can do at 3 set of 12 with the lower weight, is that going to get me farther in terms of strength faster than using creatine?

thanks for your reply!

domanmom creatine causes you to put more water in your muscles not under your skin. Creatine makes it so your body can put more glycogen and water in your muscles which causes them to look a bit fuller. You will get a little bit of a increase in strength within 3-5 days of using it because the extra glycogen makes it possbile for your muscles to contract a bit more powerfully.

Creatine will not make you look like you are "holding water" because it is intramuscular water not subcutaneous water. Depending on your LBM your dose will be between 15-25 grams per day taken with a simple sugar. After a few weeks if you get a bit of diarea then lower your dose a bit.

I take mine with my protein shake, and I only use about 10g a day max.

Did you ever try a dose higher then this? If so, did you not see more benfit from the larger dose? I find that at 10g ED i see no noticeable effect at all. I need at least 20g to get the benfit of it.
