stomach vacuuming legit?

I had some guy at a dinner party get up in front of everyone and say that if you want to have a flat stomach you should suck in your stomach and he showed everyone. we all thought it was funny and that he was kidding but he got mad and said not it was called stomach vacuuming and it works. anyone heard of this before?
