static hold

I just got back from doing my max effort - I tried the static hold for the first time. Wow! Has anyone tried these before? I could only do 100% over my max and then the bar started to drift on me, I think my stabilizers are weak. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had any good results with these or if they are a waste of time.

there are threads on this board about static holds, but either way I feel they are good. I am planning on doing them after ME work myself, but I would not do them with double my max as I understood from readin what you said. I would probably do them with 40%over my max, not double I feel that is too much strain if your holding the weight for about 5-10seconds.

i can do them with about 175% of my max or around there.. i did it for 2 weeks and then when i went for my max it felt so light!

Exactly, if your doing these with 100% of your bench I think that is way too much ... If your benching say 315, your gonna be able to hold 630? I really doubt it, but maybe your not talking about double.. Anyway try them at 30-40% over your max for like 10 seconds or so each.....

Grant - they are just unracking a bar loaded with supramaximal weight and holding it without moving.

I have found them VERY effective - whether its psychological or CNS-related I don't know. I forgot who started the discussion on them a while back, but thanks to whoever did and mentioned the Polliquin (sp?) articles. just goes to show there's always more to learn and progress to be made........

I didn't say I was going to i'm not sure if I will or not I'm gonna do trial&error. I'm gonna try one workout with it before and one after and see which one I like better. I was thinkin after b/c you would be tired if u did it before. but if u do it before then all the other weights are gonna feel lighter. So i'm not sure which one like I said i'm gonna experiment with it.

I just recently started doing static holds and have benifited(sp?) from them.The psychological factor is were I have trouble at sometimes,and the static holds seem to help in that area.I think brian had a good tread on them not long ago.

I use them as 2 extra sets for my squat. After my workout I go to 25% over my max and walkout and hold the weight for 30 seconds. I know 25% over max in the squat is not much in the squat for a hold but it feels like a ton when your legs are wobbly. It also teaches you the hard way to minimize your steps when your setting up.
