My Tanita scale just HAS to be wayyy off cuz when I use it in the am my weight is lower but my bf% is 32-36% which can't be true. I used it just now & it was 28%.

I spent $80 for this stupid thing & it keeps telling me I'm obese which at 135 I know I'm not.

They don't work.
Don't torture yourself with those, just use it as a regular scale.

I've gone through 2 in the past year. Bought a second because we thought the first was broken...come to find out, it was just a hunk o' crap.

Tanita readings are thrown off by hydration levels. The more DEhydrated you are, the higher the reading. More hydrated, lower reading.

Hmmmmmmm, that's interesting cuz the directions say to not eat or drink anything within 2-3 hours.....

I'm in line with siding with the other ladies---- It's Crap!!!! I've never been below 24% with the thing.

Mebbe I'm wrong, but isn't Tanita using InfraRed to measure? It is my understanding that InfraRed can be affected by hydration levels.

Regardless, it is crap. Too much fluxuation to be useful IMHO. Find someone to do calipers on you 1x a month or so.

They have this larger tanita scale in town, at a health food store and it's got like this stand and panel on it, real fancy one. It has this feature called 'athlete' you can select it... I don't know about these other ones, but the other spring, while I was cutting it read me at 9.1% bf, by caliper I was 10.5 the first time, and It remained relatively accurate over the next couple of weighs.. :)

how did I wind up onthe womens forum? :p

on a side note, there can be a number of variances in the calipers too, like how you pinch the skin fold etc.. which sometimes makes it slightly different, but I bet if you use 3 try's (find average) on 3 sites(find average) you can get a relatively accurate measurement...

though... I guess the under what hydrostatic tank deal would be THE BEST
:)

Y'know DG I'm not sure -- I thought it said it sends some type of signal or current thru your body (lower body only for the stand on scale) which only travels thru the water or something.....

But, yeah, it's apparantly not accurate regardless.....stupid thing! LOL :p
