Cool, i have been told similar things by docs. "_____, you will never run another marathon, even with rehab your iliopsoas won't be able to take it" (after a bad muscle tear).

well did i prove him wrong or what. 2 years later i hit a PR by 20 minutes.

but i agree with ThaiBox too. basically you have to know your own limits. some things you can tough it out over, i.e. a good attitude and diligent care will make it better. some things you just can't though.
 
Good for you Citrus. I would recommend seeing what we call a physiotherapist over here (kineisiolgist? physical therapist? in the US) who deals with sports people on a regular basis. They know lots about rehabbing muscles and whether you can actually compete as opposed to covering their asses.

Docs will say don't lift as they are scared you will sue them if they say you're ok and there's a problem. Plus I have met many very unhealthy medical students who think all that "exercise stuff" is for "crazy MFs and obsessives". Find an MD who lifts him or herself...
