When you get there, you enter through the "Welcome" page, then I think you have to click on the "Shoebox" to get to the pictures.

Please be nice, everyone!!

I know I need additional size, 'specially in my arms. These pics are mid-way through my cuts phase (except for the dance picture, that's from a year ago). I will be starting a mass phase after this, and I have 6 months 'till I plan to compete. I'm working towards a Figure competition. I'm completely natural, thus far. Also, when I started out, about 3 1/2 years ago, I was around 44% b/f and now I'm around 16% b/f. Sorry, I don't have any good "before" pictures (I always camoflaged myself).

Well, playing with the photo album gave me something to do while I'm sick, anyway.

Fennec, you have done a great job in getting to 16% from 44%. You have good definition showing already, so you are near your goal already. What did you do to kill the BF so effectively?

Also, what will be your next goal? After all, you are within touching distance of the comps in 6 months. So where do you want to go from there?

I don't know what to say really. To go from 44%bf to 16% is so totally awesome, and I can see you did it gradually because you don't have yards of excess skin hanging off of ya. All I can say is congrats and well done. No need to push yourself too hard through you illness. I hope that after your competition you can focus on gaining more muscle if that's a goal of yours, otherwise maintaning a healthy weight for life.

Let's see... When I first decided I could stand to lose some weight, I went to several sessions with a hypnotist to help get my mind set right. I work with a personal trainer who is awesome! And my dance instructor is also a trainer, so I'm aligned with my goals on all fronts. :)

1) I had to quit dipping tobacco. (yeah, you heard right)
2) I had to quit drinking a six-pack of beer every night.

Once I had those two problems under control, I was able to start seeing real progress. (And by the way, I still drink beer and enjoy it 'bout once a month or so.)

Diet plus cardio plus weight lifting. The key is consistency over time!

For the longest time, I would diet for 2 or 3 days, decide nothing was happening, and then go crazy eating whatever I felt like for the next 2 or 3 days (usually some carb-filled casserole or tacos). Then I would cry to my trainer that "It's not working!" It took me forever to get with the program! I'm amazed at how patient my trainer was with me.

At least during that time, I was getting more and more consistent with my weight training and starting to enjoy it - seeing strength gains, etc.

Then I started doing the cardio, like I was supposed to, and even though I was still screwing up some with my diet, I saw some progress.

Last year, my trainer challenged me to do a "trial run" of getting really serious, just to see what it was like. It was almost an ultimatum, like "I'll do everything he says, and if I still don't have the results that will PROVE once and for all that this may work for other people, but it doesn't work for me!"

So for the 16 weeks prior to last year's Olympia, I followed every instruction he gave me, to the letter. I took only the one day off per week, for the last four weeks, it was one day off every two weeks, and increased my cardio, didn't cheat on my diet, lifted heavy, etc. Really got consistent. I couldn't believe the results. Of course the reward was, a group of us went to the Olympia (in Las Vegas, with no kids) and had a blast!

Since then, I've been really consistent and it's going great. I'm finally getting close to the b/f level I want. My strength is coming up. I was REALLY proud of myself a few weeks ago when I did the "pyramid of pain" (descending sets) on the lying leg press, and my max was 420 lbs for four reps!! My bodyweight is 121 now, and that was the most I've ever pressed.

However, I just recently realized that I've focused forever on my legs, 'cause I always wanted to get rid of the "saddlebags" and my arms haven't gotten as much attention as they should.

My next mini-goal is to get my arm workouts up to the same intensity I can muster when I do legs. I want to put some more thickness on my arms and back over the next few months. Also, even though I decided to go for Figure instead of Fitness, due to chronic wrist problems, I'm still working on flexibility, and I want to get my center splits!

After the competition, I'll probably start training for next year's competition. :)

And I'm always working on becoming a better dancer - I'd like to perform a lot more.

Fennec, all I can say is, wow! You are an inspiration to us all. Anyone who can go from 44% to 16% is truly a champion, IMO. I think you've already won your personal contest, so whatever you do in the real world of competition should be icing on the cake! :)

I had a question about your leg training. I am now trying to reshape my legs, specifically my butt. My legs have always been very strong and look cut even at 16% bf. I don't want to increase the size as much as just bring out the cuts. I've been confused by some who say to lift heavy and others who say to lift light to achieve this look. What do you think?

Fantastic job Fennec!

I love stories such as this, makes me work harder at my own goals! Keep up that great work!

You Go GIRL:) You look great.....and have a wonderful positive attitude.. Keep working hard and pursuing your goals a day at a time and you will have great success!! You have so much to look forward to............keep your head up and keep moving the weight!

Thank you so much for all the encouragement, everyone!! You're very, very kind! I'll post again after I go through my mass phase, and we'll see if I can bring those arms up to speed.

My legs still aren't all that incredibly cut yet, but for the hamstring/butt area, my trainer has me do heavy stiff legged deadlifts (95 lbs for high reps), and tons of lunges with just bodyweight or sometimes holding 10-15 pound dumbells. I hate lunges. ;) He also sometimes likes to have me superset a set of 25 lunges on each leg with a set of squats. Any time I have to do supersets, I'm guaranteed an intense workout, and usually get good and sore afterwards. I think it's the heavy stiff legs that are working the best for me. I'm just not sure how much of the work is working on my lower back, and how much to the hamstrings/butt area.

My personal opinion is - the heavier I lift, the better results I seem to get, whether it's cuts, shape, or what have you. And the better I feel. If I have a really light workout, I usually feel kinda ripped off. Light weight, higher reps is good if I'm stiff and need to get the blood flowing, or on very low carb days.

Thanks again!
Fennec

Fennec,

Amen to what you said "My personal opinion is - the heavier I lift, the better results I seem to get, whether it's cuts, shape, or what have you. And the better I feel." You should be the poster girl for the women who refuse to believe lifting heavy will do great things for their body.

And what you have done - 44% to 16% - AMAZING! Your skin is so firm and tight, one would never know you'd ever been higher than 16! Just another testament how hard work and patience can win out over a quick fix.

You betcha those are fake. And well worth the money, too! :) I meant that I have done no A/S cycles. If you have been reading the board for a while, then you know I wasn't happy with the way my boobs deflated when I lost weight, so I had them refilled to the original size. I had always been fairly voluptuous and curvy and did not like the way they deflated and got floppy and saggy.

Lobo - I did my best. I put up a six-month side-by-side comparison picture. It is from about 21% b/f last October right before the Olympia to about 16% in April (just a couple weeks ago), from the rear, wearing the same swimsuit. It's my "reality shot" where I didn't pose - just let it all hang out. Obviously you look better when you pose.

I only discovered photos in an electronic format during this past year. I did look through my photo albums but I was always wearing something bulky, or standing behind someone, or sitting down, etc. I did at least find a couple upper body shots that I can get scanned that will give a better idea of what I used to look like. I'll try to get some done next weekend for ya.

When I started this, I never really thought I would keep going. It never occurred to me to take a "before" picture. On top of that, I was one of those people who hide their fat pretty well, I carried a lot on my back and hips, but my arms were never that large, and I only got a little bit of a tummy. I was wearing a roomy size 12 jeans, though. It was mostly in my back, hips, and thighs (and boobs - LOL).

I think everyone probably imagines 44% to be as big as a house, but I was just a typical midwestern girl, proportions-wise I was closer to Fergie than Rosie O'Donnell, if that gives a better idea.

The first time I ever thought to take pictures to try to track progress was last October, after I had already been working out for almost 3 years and had already lost a bunch of fat. That's when I realized that I was going to stick with it and keep going, also when I realized I still have a long way to go to get where I want to be. It's been really gradual and slow, no overnight changes here. You can see even in the six months, from 21% to 16% is 5% change, but it doesn't look that drastic. However, that was the difference between a size 8 jeans and size 5 jeans. ;)

When I first had my body composition taken, I couldn't believe my bodyfat percentage! My husband weighed over 300 pounds, but my bodyfat was almost as high as his!!! My trainer calculated my lean muscle mass at only 95 pounds, and my average weight was 137, but I even have days recorded in my training journal where I hit 147. In case anyone was wondering, I am 5' 5 1/2".

I must say, I do like my skin tone a lot better now, and to everyone who commented on it, thank you!! :)

I can't believe no one else mentioned this. I dipped for 18 yrs and then quit. I only know of two other chicks that dipped and one was a cousin that I got going on Silver Creek a loooooooongggg time ago. She quit after about a month but damn it was kinda funny to see her out there spitting away. :)

Great job with your transformation.

Do you live in AZ? Wondered because of the rock yard.

RudeDawg:

17 years for me. It was very hard to quit!

good job.In my opinion you should consider an A/S like anavar or maybe growth hormone;good if you are over 40 when your body produces less of it. I will try it if I get to be 40 (15 more years)but not before. It helps you look younger too. just my opinion. good luck and very very nice work.;)

Fennec!
You look great. What an inspiration for all of us, especially for us older gals:D
Thank you.

Well, how old do ya'll think I am, anyway? I just turned 33. If you thought that 'cause I said I dipped for 17 years, that's true, I started in my sophomore or junior year in high school.

If it's that I look older in the pictures, hopefully it's cause:

a) It was a low carb day, and I was not pumped up
b) I had just finished cardio
c) No tan, no makeup
d) I was squinting into the sun

Sometime this summer, I plan to go to a professional photographer and have some really good pics taken. I'll post those, and see if ya still think I look like I'm in my 40's. Meanwhile, my husband will get a kick out of this, because he's always ragging on me because I get carded in casinos and buying alcohol, but he never does. He'll love the fact you guys thought I was in my 40's!

I'll try to keep my positive mental attitude, in spite of the fact you think I'm a seasoned citized. ;)

BTW: Had my first 2 workouts after being sick, yesterday and today. It felt GREAT to work out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree with you fennec, SLDL's are the way to go for hams. i'm up to 45# at 20 or 30 reps...at what rep amount should i up the weight? Been making slow but steady progress, i started at 35#'s three or four months ago. 10# in three months...the fastest progress i ever made with anything.

Wynnyelle: Shoot, girl, if you can do that many reps in good form, it's time to increase the weight now! Good work!

Try kicking it up to 65, and see if you can use that weight and maintain your form. If you can still do 20 in good form, go higher. Try to keep your shoulders back and down. That one is hard for me, but getting more "normal" feeling with practice. The easiest way to feel the right form is to try to keep your shoulder blades squeezed together through the whole movement (your butt should be stuck out and your chest should be stuck out), don't lock your knees, and you can also stand on a "step" (like for step aerobics) if you are so flexible that when you reach the bottom of the movement, the weight is hitting the floor. Usually when I do them, it starts taxing me heavily somewhere between the eighth and twelveth rep. When I use the 95 pounds, my forearms start to give out before my hamstrings do, but I'm pretty strong in this exercise. If you start to lose your form, end the set. You can hurt your back if you mess up the form on this one. Have fun!

i don't want to bump it up more than 5 lb's at a time, my body has never responded well to sudden large weight increases. I have to be 'sneaky' about it or my body actually catches on that i'm trying to (gasp) build muscle and it just locks up into a plateau no matter how much i eat, or worse, my lift plummets. so i'll up the weight to #50 this week and keep going till i get the reps below 20 again. i've been doing so well with this that i don't want to put a whammy on it.

i'm not flexible at all, have always had tight hamstrings. i lower the weight to below my knees and above my ankles so i'm not stretching those hams too much. this range of motion has worked well for me. i can feel most of my weight centering on my heels rather than my whole foot when i do them, i do stick my butt back, i have to or the barbell's weight simply makes me fall forward :)

GREAT JOB!!! I have read your threads for awhile and know how bad you want to succeed. You look great so far. Going from 40% to under 20% bodyfat is an amazing accomplishment. You are a wonderful role-model for those whomsay it cannot be done...you just proved their asses wrong!!!

As a future forewarning, you will notice, if not already, that the fat loss becomes harder to lose as you get leaner (at least for most), and I feel this is where these boards excel in helping people like yourself. Just know that we will be here every step of the way if you need anything. Again, your looking great, good job!!!
