I'm still new to this whole dieting scene so I was wondering what effects does sodium in foods have for people like us who work out, run etc...

I tried to find answers by searching but only thing I came up with is sodium is bad and a recomendded amount for a normal person is 1200 miligrams to 2400 or something.. it didnt say anything about why well other then the high blood pressure but I want to know more.. like should we avoid it too and what should be a good amount of sodium for us athletes.

Sodium makes you retain more water, and exessive amounts should be avoided if one does not exercise. But for the physically active, (and those of us bulking), sodium needs to be present in the diet for bodily functions to occur properly, and for nutrients and water replenishment (sweat that leaves you is salty right?). Avoid it? Well, if you eat the foods promoted on these posts (eggs, meat, pb, cruciferous veggies, monounsat. oils), then you should get enough sodium in yor diet-- adding salt to meals is generally not a good idea (try salt-free spices).
Well, that's my ideas-- hope they helped.
