So i had two of these Ketogenic "candy" bars today

and damn were they good.

Now it says that the net carbs are 1.

here is how the come up with this number

**Less Sugar Alcohols (23 g)
Less Fiber (2 g) = 0 Net Effective Carbs
*Sugar Alcohol is a slowly metabolized carbohydrate which generally causes only a small rise in blood glucose levels.
∆Each bar contains 600mg of added calcium

So well the "slight" increase in glucose levels kick me out of ketosis?
 
It appears that the reaction to sugar alcohols is very individual.

But keep in mind that sugar alcohols will be stored in the liver as glycogen, so even though they do not affect blood sugar levels, there is a pretty big chance they will kick you out of ketosis, especially if you consume quite a bit.
 
A major problem with the low carb bars are their weak nutritional profile including partially hydrogenated _____ oils, collagen and hydrolized gelatin
 
yeah well they taste good. I sure wont eat them every day.

I don't have keto sticks right now, but from my previous experience, I would say that I am still in Ketosis....maybe not though.

I'll pick some up tormorrow.
 
I think the average for sugar alcohols is count them as 50% carbs. At least thats what we tell diabetics to do lol. Look out for stuff like sorbitol and company. I ate half a container of low-sugar ice cream with it, spent the next 12 hours in the bathroom.
 
I have heard of people being kicked out of ketosis by simply chewing on a piece of sugar-free gum but I have also heard that some people can eat up to 40g-50g of carbs and stay in ketosis, it really depends on how your body responds, your best bet is to get some ketostix but even they're not 100% accurate!
Those keto chocolate bars are nice though, I like the Atkins ones!
