Smoking & Lifting

Can smoking affect gaining muscle?

I’m a smoker and plan to stop some time, It don’t effect me when I’m lifting heavy at all, or riding my bike, I’m very active and it seems it does nothing to my endurance, maybe cause im young still? I know it will get me in the long run.

But am wondering if it would make me gain less in lean mass then I would normally, I still eat like a pig though, so far ive gained 20 lbs lean muscle since starting out (while being a smoker) I know this is a big no no, but I have a smoking problem, I’ll admit… I will stop soon, but it’s so hard.

What do you think?

[Edit]

Any tips on avioding smoking are welcome. Ive herd them all, but it never hurts to listen for more ideas. oh..last thought here, you think I would be able to do more reps per say if I did? lol

smoking is horrible for you bro and yes it will affect your lifting. im a smoker and it was the worst thing i started doing. it kills your cardio making it alot harder to push heavy weights in the gym. ur cells need oxygen and smoking makes less available to your lungs.

Yeah, heavy compounds like deadlifts and squats require respiratory efficacy. The last thing you need is tar and all that other carcinogen crap to collect on the alveoli.
