of some of my favorite horror movies, hopefully you'll be able to find them. dvd is doubtful on these.
1) Don't Look Now. 1973. Donald Sutherland. clever movie the ending caught me by suprise.
2) Black Christmas. 1974. this predates any of the soon to come slasher flicks. and probably the best one at that. psycho killer hides in attic of sorority house at christmas break. good times.
3) The Hills have Eyes. 1977. if gore and brutality are your thing, this is the movie for you. Wes Craven directed.
4) The Changeling. 1980. George C. Scott. i think this is the best ghost story ever made. not many effects, but it doesn't need it here.
5) Zombie. 1979. what's halloween without zombies?? this was an unauthorized sequel to Dawn of the Dead. lots of gore, exploding heads, flesh rending, eyeball punctured by large splinter. yum.
see if you can find any of these, all are a good view. better than anything you'll rent in the recent release section.
