Simple sugars post workout

I've been using this pretty old school technique with very good success on my recomp diet and I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on it?

The premise being eating a diet containing very slow release carbs all week apart from the post workout 'window' where in theory a glucose drink (very fast release carbs)with a protein shake creates an insulin spike driving nutrients to the muscles and drastically improving recovery...

There seems to be a lot of evidence to back this up but I'm sure there are those who think this approach works simply because macro ratios are being met and the timing is irrelevant...

I've been doing this myself on my recomp. I'll have a couple small cookies or a piece of chocolate with my protein jsut before I eat my post workout meal. If nothing else I feel like the simple sugar will put glycogen back in the muscle and that can't be a bad thing...

Doing it too frequently is a bad bad idea, your insulin sensitivity will go down if you spike you insulin all the time post workout.
I carb cycle and only twice a week i do this, only on the high carb days where i wan to improve a body part, IMO it really does help recovery, but its not a good idea to do it all the time..
If you're not doing any kind of carb restriction dont do it, it can a make you fat and you could become insulin resistance.

i use a mixture of dextrose, pineapple juice and orange syrup post workout, the take a 50gm whey isolate shake mixed with water......I get the insulin spike and protien for teh nutrient timing aspect, but Im also hungery an hour later and can get in some good food calories....works great for me.

I use waxie maize post workout when I first start dieting then eventually I will cut all carbs out of my post workout shake to take advantage of the gh spike. And then eat some slow releasing carbs with my meal an hr after my shake.
