A client of mine owns a electronics business, mainly providing displays to companies. He said he would be able to get me this bad boy for about $1,700.

Im tempted mainly because I just got a Blu-Ray player, and although it looks good on my 32" LCD, Im sure itll look orgasmic on this.

I could tone it down and get a 42" of this model for about $1,000.

Make up my mind, folks.

The tv will make a diferrence with the Blu-ray you are getting it for a steal so go for it!

42" for a G sounds better. Depends on the size and lighting of the room. I've been researching and am in the market for a TV as well. It's recommended to get a plasma if your room is of darker lighting, due to glaring and only being able to depict the quality in darker lighting.

Plus I thin 3500 is ludacris to spend on a tv, however I only use it for movies and refuse to get cable.

Ya, the way I have it set up is that we sit maybe 6 feet away from the TV. In response, the guy busted out some diagrams showing the recommended viewing distances, and lo and behold 6 feet apparently would work wonders with a 50". I would definately get the 42" but Im not sure if it is 1080p.

What's the diffrence from 1080i and 1080p? I have the 50 inch and HD runs at 1080i.

it's 1080p. the p comes from the br player. ntsc tv comes in 1080i. but there is alnmost no difference to the human eye. Check it out at best buy. There's a major complex formula that explains how 1080p on br is pretty much 1080i compressed and changed via a complex algorithm. Someone posted it on some forum someplace. I forget the link. Not like I could understand it. :)

Bigger than 42" go with dlp, otherwise lcd. Plasma is over-rated, overpriced, overweighted, power bill spiked and long term deflated performance degraded garbage.

There is a difference between 1080i and 720p for videogames though. I remember playing Gears of War swapping between the two res's and 1080i was noticeably glitchy, while 720p was smooth and pristine. 1080i is best for stuff like viewing photos.

1080p means 1080 pixels per inch in a “progressive” scan format. 1080i means the same pixels in “interlaced” format. Progressive scan broadcasting offers a higher quality picture so a 720p broadcast is similar to a 1080i broadcast. I’m not going to get into the technical aspect of this but I can tell you that unless you have better than 20/20 vision and you are sitting within 2 feet of your television screen, you don’t even have the chance of noticing the difference between 1080i versus 1080p, or 1080i versus 720p.

DLP is used in a lot of movie theaters these days.

I'd wait for Panasonic's next generation of plasmas coming out in April. Much better native resolution, and a game/pc mode (first time you can do such things on a plama without damaging it).

1080 p is an entirely different set than a 1080 i
The 1080 p uses hundreds if microprocesseors with a tiny mirror to reflect light, this is perfect for gameing since reflective light doesn't burn the screen,so it's perfect for video games,as far as the 1080 i ,the comparrision. would have to be made with the 2 sets side by side to defind the differences but i havn't seen the two side by side i am leaning to the 1080p for that slight 3D effect.
I have serviced Tv's for 37 yrs.

it's kinda hard in stores, cuz they rarely put a blue ray player on a tvp next to a blu ray player on a tvi. i've never seen it.

I'm not planning on playing games...just movies. I love my movies, especially the Blu-Rays.

Yup. Vizio makes a really solid product for a lower price. I think the only thing they've said comes up a little short is the sound quality, but if you have a theater kind of setup it make it a non-issue.

brandsmart 50 inch plasma 1080i 800 bucks haier have 2 they work great great picture
