if your short is it easier to lift then a tall person becuase im short and my friends say i lift more becuase im shorter and its a less range of motion.....i could be wrong but it looks like excuses..
:bigbuck:

shorter people have an easier time with lifting weights as opposed to taller people because of the shorter range of motion, and for some exercises, less leverage. I think shorter people can gain mass faster because of this. but, of course, that all has to do with how hard you want to work. regardless, just lift, and who cares what others think?

Gary Frank is what...6'5" or better...with the highest total in the world.

Taller = longer levers.
Shorter = shorter range of motion, usually with smaller joints to do so with.

Many factors come into play. Everyone has their +'s.

is there a study or something becuase ive been hearing this since junior high and its not like i care about what people think its just i would want to know becuase this is the tall peoples talk at the gym..i think its b.s that would mean short people would be the worlds strongest people..

It makes sense to me(less distance to travel), but I'm 6'2" and respectably strong. Getting my long-ass arms and legs to look full is the hard part.

Short people (with some exceptions of course) are the strongest people in the world. Go to a powerlifting meet some time. If you are over 6 foot tall, you are a giant there.

However, there is a difference between gym strength and functional strength. Just ask B-fold the Truth, when putting a 300 pound rock on the top of a barrel, it helps to be big.

In my opinion, powerlifting is for short strong people, while Strongman, and highland games is for tall strong people.

Just my 2 cents.

B.

And by the way, I am short (five foot seven)

Being tall is awesome! The best powerlifters Kaz, Frank were tall and strongman guys are tall.

I just cant compare lifts like bench presses between tall and short people. Tall lifters are just that much bigger and impressive

And besides the best benchers are tall anyways; Kaz, Cabot and Halbert (5'11) are above avg height.

People are supposed to look UP to strong men, not look down upon them.

Also taller bodybuilders are much more impressive,
Arnold v. Franco and Haney v. Labrada for example

Height does make a difference in strongman...especially with loading events and with leverage events. I was short (6'2'') compared to a lot of the pro's.

I remember Louie Simmons saying something to the point of...no excuses, don't make an excuse why you can't lift this or lift that. Don't make excuses for your limitations. Be a complete lifter. Strengthen yourself through your limitations.

Well...something like that.

i agree with short guys having it easier in some ways, but feel like a bitch saying it. little trolls at school prance around bragging bout their benches 50 pounds more than mine, i hate that shit. my arms are twice as long as theirs, so bench is one thing where it makes it easier to be short limbed. I look at it like , im 6'3" so i have more potential than the little guys, but i still feel like a shithead for making excuses for my comparibly weaker bench

Halbert is not five eleven, and those other guys mentioned are all over 300 lbs bodyweight. Halbert is five eight or nine, Kenny Patterson (youngest to ever bench 700 @22 years old) is five foot six, Anthony Clark is five foot eight. Short guys can bench. We have less distance to push the bar. But Jesus Christ, give us something!!! We can't dunk a basketball, most of us can't run real fast, because we have to take more steps, most of us can't throw anything real well because of short levers. We usually can't deadlift much. So give the short guys their due on bench.

Hell, tall people have all the breaks in Basketball, Football, Baseball, getting dates, and so on. Cut a short guy some slack. This is one of the few athletic endeavors I have much of a chance to excell at. With some exceptions, you are limited to certain sports by body size and type. You are stuck with your height, but you can do a lot to manipulate your body type. Skinny people can put on muscle to become bigger people, heavy people can do tons of cardio and become smaller people, etc. . .

As B-fold says, anyone can overcome anything! There are exceptions, but without this attitude, you will never know whether you are the exception or not, because you never put the effort into it.

I am a terrible deadlifter, and a fairly good bench presser. It is rare to be good at both. But I work my ass off to become a better deadlifter. I switched to a sumo stance, and began doing a lot more hamstring work, and my deadlift went up 50 lbs. I may never hold a world record deadlifting, but I will deadlift more in a year than I am capable of right now. Work past your limitations. No whining, just get as strong as you can possibly be.

I`m 16 now and ive been 6"4 since i turned 15.

my lifts suck ass, but then again im not big either so it doesn`t mean much.

the bench thing is definetely true, im tall and also a typical knuckle dragger and its a looong way up and a loong way down.

I'm a fairly short guy(5'8 or 5'9) but have rather long arms for my height. I train with a guy whos my height but has amrs 2 inches shorter than mine and he can't bench that much more than me. I think it plays a role in how much you can do but I feel its more of an excuse than anything. No flames at all, I just feel some people have it in there mind that since there tall or short they can't excell at certain things. MOst of them don't want to put in the time it takes to be good!!

I ve seen lanky basketball player looking dudes who could bench alot more then short stocky stronger looking guys. The less travel thing makes sense but those longs arms can carry just as much muscle as a shorter fuller looking arm over a longer area.

If you are tall and big you appear bigger than if you are short and big. I am 5"10 220lbs, my training partner is 6"3 210lbs..Our lifts are the same or close to the same... I have much more mass than he does. Im alot broader and wider.

Some people say he is bigger than me, some people say i am bigger than him... Its kinda weird. It goes to show you that sometimes height can make the appearance that you are bigger.

being tall is ace no matter if you lift loads or not. nobody thinks of a shorty as a big guy.

most people would think Lee Priest looks like a fooking fat midget if hes got clothes on, even when hes in competition shape

i think its bullshit unless your 7' tall or something like that ....
youve been carrying your body around your whole life its all balanced out to me ....im 5'5 and would love to be taller ...i hate when people workout with me and have to remove plates for there reps and start that b.s oh your shorter thats why...shit what about those tall guys in the gym benching 450 what are they super human...
