hey peeps! i wanted some advice on what people due to control their nerves on stage. i used to be a ballet dancer, a cheerleader, and a violin player....so i've been on stage quite a bit. but NOTHING compares to being in a figure competion! i feel like i'm going to have a heart attack because my heart is pounding so fast, and i can't stop shaking! any tips or stories??

Focus on your breath before your on stage breath deeply once on stage don't breat so deep it make the waist look larger. Focus on all the time on staqe if your doing your quarter turns focus on the posing for each angle. If your stnading in the back make sure to smile your ass off keep posing don't relax at all on stage. Smile at the judges make eye contact if you can smile and work it. Did I forget to mention focus? LOL The shakes will stop if you are focused on what you need to do.

I will make a tiny addition because I can give you a suggestion about breath technique (I'm not qualified to comment further because I have never had to be on stage for anything). We use a breathing technique that I have found is one of the quickest to calm and center you and it's really, really easy. Breath in for a count of four, hold for a count of four, release for a count of four, pause for a count of four, rinse and repeat. The pauses are important. The toughest part is getting the hang of breathing in and out in similar volume/time. Usually you'll find yourself calming down in about four to five cycles.

Also a great way to begin a meditation :qt:

Practice!!! Practice posing every night.
When I was Judging it was easy to tell who put in the extra work and who did not.
Another tip is to have someone who knows how to pose put your through the motions. Every time they tell you "perfect" close your eyes and remember exactly the form you are in. After a while the pose becomes natural.
Just remember repetition is key. Keep hitting the poses on a daily basis year round. Sounds dumb but it works and you will be way more confident on stage.
As they say, if you can do it with your eyes closed...
Best of luck.
