SCOT MENDELSON breaks all-time RAW bench press record

Previously held by big James Henderson at 711, SCOT MENDELSON hit a HUGE 713 this past weekend while wearing NO bench press shirt (raw). Glen Chabot also informed me that when he is all healed up he still intends to capture the biggest raw bench as well.

a big congrats Scot!

damn, I'd be happy to squat or dead that much

That is HUGE weight! In a contest like that, do they have to pause it down on their chest for a second or something like that? Regardless though, that is intense!

Nice Press! I think bench shirts are gay, they really shouldn't allow people to compete with them. That's just my 2 cents...

 Big deal. Like there aren't at least ten guys on the Chat board who can lift that much or more.

:p

Especially Bullit.

Is it just me, or does it look like he's benching BB style? The bar looks like it's way higher up on his chest and his arms look like they are straight out to his side.

Not dissing the very impressive lift, just wondering.

Just curious,

ok. i don't know how tall he is. i was guessing by the range of motion. i didn't mean to knock the guy.

joker, he does have more of a BBer style bench - in my opinion an even harder way to put up the big numbers. Most of the top guys use the "elbows tucked way in" technique, works better with the bench shirts.

Thanks. He must have rotator cuffs from hell...*LOL*

just got word he is rumored to open with a HUGE 804 at the arnold - cant wait to see it!

jake

why is he opening with that weight, want to smash the record i guess

I won't doubt that the weight is impressive. I don't think I ever want to lift that much though. I just don't like the great risk of injury on the rotator cuffs.

Props to him, though.

Question 1: What exactly is a bench shirt?
Question 2: Do these dudes have to tough the bar to their chest?

I personally dont let the bar touch(about 2 - 3 inches off)

bench shirt is a supportive shirt worn by competitive powerlifters. protects the lifter from injury some and allows more weight to be pressed. bar has to be slightly paused while on lifters chest in competition before judge yells "PRESS!" Very strict and more difficult than a "touch and go" bench press. You really should consider touching the bar to your chest for a complete range of motion. and so people wont laugh and point. :p

huge weight!!!

And people still think they are big and bad cause they can bench 300lbs.

And you know what? I will be big and bad when I hit 250x1 next week, then when I hit 265, then I will strut like a real bad-ass when I hit 315 for the first time.

I will continue to strut my ass off as long as I keep lifting more and more each week, month, year, or decade.......

So there.....:mommakin:

this is part of this thread
well, i used to think a 300lb bench was pretty awesome. now that i can do it, it's nothing. with the sub-cultural aspects of strength/fitness/bodybuilding that i immerse myself into, it's nothing.

i think it would be cool if i just bench 405 someday. :)

wants to be the first "without question" 800+ bencher I would imagine. Can you IMAGINE 800 on your wrists? Ever held 400?? geez...anyways, Scot being the current equipped and unequipped (bench shirt) record holder aint too shabby either. :)

Didn't Kennely already bench 800?

Was the lift recorded as a record?

No the lift was not recorded as an official record.. That is held by Scott Mendelson officially at 782.6 with the second place lift being Anthony Clarks 780.0. Anthony has also Bench 800 in an unofficial attempt a few years back...

yeah, exhibtions (generally NOT done under the eye of judges) are not counted. That's why a lift like jamie harris' 770 isnt recognized by the statisticians of the sport. anthonys 800 WAS done with judges at the arnold but the video clearly shows that the weight wasnt locked out and the pressure on the judges for white lights in front of a screaming crowd was huge. one judge never sat in a judging chair again. I wouldnt want to red light somebody with 10,000 people wanting a good world record lift.
